A woman’s claim on TikTok that a Starbucks worker put coffee in drinks she bought for her 4-year-old and 8-year-old children went viral.
Stella (@salty.stella) says in a video that has over 158,000 views that she is making the video to figure out if she ordered something wrong or if the worker made a mistake.
Starbucks just caffeinated my 4-year-old and my 8-year-old at 7pm at night, and I’m trying to figure out if I’m in the wrong here,
she starts.
As the video goes on, Stella says that she buys Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos for her kids “like twice a month.”
The Starbucks website says that the Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino is a “rich and creamy blend of vanilla bean, milk, and ice topped with whipped cream.” It doesn’t have caffeine unless a shot of espresso is added.
Stella says that on her most recent visit, she ordered two “tall Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos.” The worker looked “miserable” and messed up her iced coffee order, but Stella says she didn’t mind.
I don’t care,
she said.
But when she got her Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos, she noticed that the drink looked darker than the whipped cream on top. This made her suspicious. She says that the frappuccino was still “a shade of white,” but that the fact that it was dark outside might have made her see it differently.
Later, one of her kids said the frappuccino didn’t taste the same as it usually does. Stella realized at that moment that the frappuccinos had been made with coffee.
I am so confused as to what happened. Am I missing information?
she asks.
Anyway, first world problems. Do something kind today.
Some people said at first that Stella was in the wrong.
frappuccinos have caffeine in them. you wanted the creme one,
wrote one user.
Frapuccino’s have caffeine,
agreed another.
But soon after, people who said they were current and former Starbucks employees said that it was the employee’s fault, not Stella’s.
I used to be a store manager. They are not made with coffee unless you ask for it,
claimed a commenter.
I’m a barista! This isn’t right, could be someone new? The ‘technical’ name is a vanilla bean créme, but it could have passed over their head?
offered a second.
I used to work for Starbucks, the employees mess up all the time. yes there should be no caffeine in the vanilla bean,
added a third.
Starbucks has a line of drinks called “Creme Frappuccinos” that don’t have caffeine.
Users told Stella to say “creme” specifically in the future to avoid a similar situation.
Sometimes the[y] accidentally make a Cafe Vanilla frapp. Which has coffee. Say vanilla bean Crème frapp to be sure,
suggested a commenter.
