According to the recently released unused Ben Affleck Batsuit concept art, Batman’s look in The Flash was supposed to have a different look. Concept and costume illustrator Robert Rowley shared some Batsuit designs which were designed for Ben Affleck’s Batman in The Flash but didn’t make the cut.
Unused Ben Affleck Batsuit Concept Art
Ever since the concept and costume illustrator, Robert Rowley released the rejected Batsuit designs, fans have felt that Ben Affleck’s Batman could’ve had a better look compared to the costume design that was used in the final cut. Rowley shared a series of concept art designs on his Instagram showcasing options for the costume design. He shared several concept art with the following caption-
“Batman concepts from THE FLASH.
I think they used a blue one, but we tried a bunch of other colourways and damage/scratches/bullet holes.Costume Designer Alexandra Byrne”
One of the first pictures shared by Rowley showed us a Batsuit design which was quite similar to Ben Affleck’s Batsuit in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The concept art shows a darker shade for the cape along with a scratched logo on the chest.
The second picture shows a lighter and somewhat grey-toned Batsuit with the same design but with a darker cape.
The third image represented a much different Ben Affleck Batsuit design. The hooded mask and cape remain the same dark shade, however, the Batman logo on the chest is shiny and more pronounced with scratches and bullet marks on the left chest.
Lastly, Rowley shared a full head-to-toe Batsuit design which gives us a glimpse into the entire look of Ben Affleck’s costume design including the footwear. The boots also have certain scratches which portray wear and tear that the character has gone through over time, fighting the villains.
Nevertheless, none of these designs made it to the final Ben Affleck Batsuit design as portrayed in The Flash. The costume design we see in the movie had a much lighter tone and shade with not nearly as many intricate details. The final Batsuit was also finalized considering the film’s overall tone and to give it a much lighter tone than the previous movies.
DC movies have often faced a lot of criticism over their dark themes and film tones which do not add to the cinematic experience. This was probably one of the main reasons why the concept art designs were rejected. While the designs were certainly praised and preferred by fans, the Ben Affleck Batsuit that made it to the movie did justice to the movie’s colour scheme.
