Mark Wahlberg has told people that he and his family have moved from the state of California to the state of Nevada in search of “a better life.”
The actor, who is now 51 years old and stars in Uncharted, was recently on The Talk, where he talked about how he balances his acting career with being a father.
Grace, age 12, and Ella, age 19, are his daughters. Brendan, age 14, and Michael, age 16, are his sons. He and his wife Rhea Durham have four kids together.
“That is the biggest challenge,” he said. “Every free moment that I have, I’m at home.”
Wahlberg went on: “I want to be able to work from home. I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there.
“So, to be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams, whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer, this made a lot more sense for us.”
Wahlberg said he and his wife “came here to just kind of give ourselves a new look, a fresh start for the kids, and there’s lots of opportunity here.”
“I’m really excited about the future,” he added.
In addition, the actor from “Patriots Day” said he wanted to “make this Hollywood 2.0” by “building a cutting-edge studio” in Nevada.
Wahlberg, who is a devout Catholic, gave an interview earlier this year in which he talked about how he introduces his children to the faith.
In April, when the actor was a guest on the TODAY show, he said that he had no plans to teach his kids his own view of the world.
“They think Dad’s crazy, and he’s boring,” the actor joked to Hoda Kotb. “But even with my faith, I don’t force it on them. But they know that Dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass.”
“And hopefully, instead of forcing that on them, they’ll say, ‘Well, if it works for Dad, maybe it’ll work for us,’ and they’ll kind of gravitate towards it on their own,” Wahlberg added.
