Suri, Katie Holmes’ 16-year-old daughter, has already started applying to colleges with the help of her mother. However, Suri’s famous father, Tom Cruise, won’t be able to help her because he “has no part” in her life.
Katie’s friend says that Suri, who will be 17 next month, “has sent out some applications” and is “leaning toward” going to school for fashion in New York City. Katie, who knows a lot about fashion, would be very happy with this choice.
Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective,
a source said, adding that Katie is “overwhelmed” by the thought of her daughter going to college.
Katie is helping her daughter with her college applications, but the teen’s father, the 60-year-old “Mission: Impossible” star Tom Cruise, won’t be involved. He hasn’t seen his daughter since 2013, a year after he and Katie split up.
At the time of their split, it was reported that Katie had chosen to end the couple’s marriage over fears about raising her daughter as a Scientologist – a religion that Tom Cruise is incredibly dedicated to.
Her decision to quit the religion, as well as the marriage, caused a major rift between the former spouses, which has seen Tom and Suri’s relationship become increasingly distant over the years.
The insider explained that Tom does ‘not have a part in [Suri’s] life’ – after it was previously revealed that the pair have not seen each other in years.
But the source says that Tom won’t be able to help Suri decide where she goes to school, but he will pay for her college tuition as part of his secret divorce agreement with his actress ex-wife.
In the papers for their divorce, Tom said he would pay Katie $400,000 a year until Suri turned 18.
The documents also state that Tom agreed to pay all of Suri’s expenses, including ‘medical, dental, insurance, education, college, and other extracurricular costs.’
Tom has always maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to Katie and Suri,
the source said.
But the Mission: Impossible actor hasn’t been in Suri’s life since then.
A source asked Tom’s spokesperson what they think about it.
According to another insider, Katie has not let Tom’s decision to not see Suri affect her upbringing.
Being raised by a single mom in New York has made Suri who she is. Katie has always put Suri first and Suri loves her mom more than anything,
the source says.
She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent mature woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from.
Suri loves fashion and is said to have a wardrobe worth $5 million. She has also shown that she is good at music, which she may also study in college.
Katie starred in and directed a rom-com last year called “Alone Together.” In the trailer, Suri sang “Blue Moon” on the soundtrack while her mother called her “the best.”
Katie discussed why she chose to have Suri sing the two songs, saying,
I always want the highest level of talent.
So I asked her. She’s very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing,
she gushed.
Katie also said that she hired Suri to sing in the movie Rare Objects, which she directed.
She said that when Suri was only four years old, she would often comment on her clothes.

In 2019, author Samantha Domingo said that Tom was not allowed to bond with his daughter Suri because she isn’t a Scientologist.
She also mentioned that the church doesn’t see Suri as Tom’s daughter because they believe in reincarnation.
The acclaimed author added that, instead, they view Suri as a “spiritual being in Tom’s daughter’s body.”
Tom didn’t agree that his religion was the reason he and Suri had grown apart.
Tom sued In Touch magazine for $50 million in 2013 after the magazine said that he had “abandoned” his daughter.
