Tomas Plekanec, with the Canadiens, was a decent center throughout his career and even when his 17-year old association with the organization is over. On Friday, Tomas Plekanec retired from the NHL as an active player.
The 36-year-old hockey center has been placed on unconditional waivers from Saturday after the Montreal Canadiens decided to terminate his contract.
This season Plekanec could score just one goal in three games. He had already missed nine because of a lower-back injury. He had been continuously practicing with the Canadiens for the past four days and was expecting to make a return.
But a difficult time was signaled earlier this week when Tomas sat down with Bergevin. The Canadiens is facing a roster crunch and as he says there is a change of dynamics towards “speed and youth”. Thus with younger players and their skills and developments to consider, a decision was made to break the tie with the veteran centre.
“Tomas will always be a part of the Canadiens family.”
said the Team Manager.
