Ever heard inappropriate songs in movies that just don’t make sense with the scene? There are some movies that have such catchy background scores and songs that you cannot ever listen to them without enacting the scene. For example- Iron Man’s entry to the rocking music of Back in Black by AC/DC or Rocky III’s iconic movie score Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.
10 Most Inappropriate Songs In Movies
Here, we’re going to list down 10 movies and songs that just didn’t work together.
10. Batman- Trust by Prince
Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie boasts a great soundtrack for which the director collaborated with the legendary musician, Prince. There were many amazing songs throughout the movie for fans to enjoy. However, one of the catchiest songs on the soundtrack is also unfortunately one of the most inappropriate songs. We’re talking about Trust by Prince when the song comes on in the movie, we see the Joker’s evil smile who has committed a horrible smile. The irony just didn’t sit well with the choice of song for the particular character.
9. Star Trek: First Contact- Ooby Dooby by Roy Orbison
1996’s Star Trek: First Contact was undoubtedly a great action-packed movie. It had just the right amount of comedy and action which made it super-entertaining to watch. Although, the choice to incorporate Roy Orbison’s Ooby Dooby in the movie was surely not the best move. While the song is played as a joke for the visiting Vulcans making the first contact with the aliens, it just didn’t seem right.
8. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi- Jedi Rocks by John Williams
Star Wars special edition didn’t manage to get quite a lot of things right and the song choice was one of them. In fact, the whole song and dance number in the special was a big mistake. We see Max Rebo and his band of Jizz-wailers turn up the Jabba’s Palace with Jedi Rocks while Boba Fett shows off his moves to the ladies. George Lucas really missed the mark with this one, didn’t he?
7. The Addams Family- This Is The Way We Roll by MC Hammer
MC Hammer’s This Is The Way We Roll is undoubtedly a great song to bop your head to. However, the song was just not the right choice to fit into The Addams Family. It made it to our list of inappropriate songs because the song is playing in the car with the whole grim and creepy family members in the car. A fun and upbeat song is not meant for the dark and broody family like the Addams family.
6. Battleship- Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater
Despite boasting a set of a great cast such as Liam Neeson, Rihanna, Jesse Plemons, etc, Battleship failed to deliver a powerful box office performance. We hear Creedence Clearwater’s classic rock song in the movie which actually supports the action-packed scenes. However, the timing of Fortunate Son playing at the end of the movie was certainly one of the most inappropriate songs. The song is an anti-war song while the movie is about the military fighting through hell and back against aliens.
5. Dirty Dancing- The Time of My Life by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes
Before you’ve anything to say, hear us out. Dirty Dancing is often considered some of the most iconic rom-com movies. And yes, The Time of My Life song is also an iconic addition to the movie. However, the movie tells a tale of a girl in 1963 who meets a dance instructor at a holiday camp, falls in love, and the rest is history. But the song wasn’t released until 1987 which just doesn’t makes sense.
4. Thunderbirds Are Go- Shooting Star by Cliff Richards
Thunderbirds Are Go gave us super marionette versions of Cliff Richards (Junior) and the Shadows playing Shooting Star in space. The series aired in 1966, which means there were so many popular rock bands to choose from and the makers decided to go with Cliff Richards’ Shooting Star. It had to make it to our list of inappropriate songs in movies when there were The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Monkees to choose from.
3. Dr Who and the Daleks- Fanfare Opening Titles by Malcolm Lockyer
The classic Dr Who theme song is something that has stayed with the fans even after so long. The classic theme song is unmissable and anyone who is a big Dr Who fan can recognize it in their sleep. However, the makes ruined the fun when they decided to go with the Fanfare Opening Titles by Malcolm Lockyer for Dr Who and the Daleks.
2. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves- I Do It For You by Bryan Adams
The story of Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves is about a young man who becomes a thief to help the helpless and needy. However, Bryan Adams’ song (Everything I Do) I Do It For You is supposed to convey the love Robin, played by Kevin Costner, holds for Maid Marion. Which just completely contradicts the plot of the movie altogether. It is among our list of inappropriate songs for just the sheer stupidity of it all.
1. Batman & Robin- Gotham City by R. Kelly
Gotham City by R. Kelly for Batman & Robin is certainly among the list of inappropriate songs in movies. As every Batman fan knows what goes on in Gotham City, crime, violence, and lots of public disturbance. And R. Kelly’s song describes Gotham as,
“A city of justice, a city of love, a city of peace
For everyone of us We all need it, can’t live without it A Gotham City, oh yeah”
With such contrasting themes between the movie and the soundtrack, Gotham City had to top our list of inappropriate songs incorporated into movies.
