Many Tom Cruise fans have been wondering when Top Gun 3 will be released after the enormous success of Maverick. Despite being released nearly 30 years after the smash original picture, which redefined action cinema in the 1980s, Top Gun: Maverick was always destined to be a hit. Tom Cruise had already made significant progress towards stardom, but his role as Maverick soared him to heights, and he hasn’t descended since.
Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun: Maverick, which made about $1.5 billion at the box office, is recognised as the movie that drove record-breaking numbers of people back to theatres. A record for Tom Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and surpassing all 2022 films, $723 million of the total came from the US.
There was an immediate demand for a sequel when Top Gun debuted in theatres. Scripts were submitted over the years but rejected, and eventually the idea vanished. The proposal that would become Top Gun: Maverick was rejected by legendary filmmaker Tony Scott until 2010 when producer David Ellison known for the most recent two Star Trek films created it.
Top Gun 3
Currently, Top Gun 3 has not yet received any form of approval. Joseph Kosinski, the director, has expressed a lot of interest in it. However, the movie’s occurrence is not yet completely assured. Here is what producer Jerry Bruckheimer had to say about Top Gun 3:
“He’s [Tom Cruise] in the middle of shooting Mission Impossible, he’s got a lot of very difficult, hard stunts he’s doing…It’s not the time to take attention away from what’s important to him right now.”
When asked about the prospects for Top Gun 3, the whole cast and crew have so far kept quiet. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a formal announcement, and Cruise has remained coy when asked directly about a third movie. On the other hand, no one from Maverick or Paramount has publicly stated that Top Gun 3 won’t be happening. Once more, it seems as though a third movie is inescapable.
Potential Cast Of Top Gun 3
Miles Teller said in an interview that he is in negotiations for a third movie just weeks after the release of Top Gun: Maverick. As there is currently no franchise without the superstar, Tom Cruise will undoubtedly be back for a third film.
Although Glen Powell hasn’t confirmed his return, it’s safe to assume that he’d be back, along with the majority of the cast, if their schedules allowed. Jon Hamm, who was made to portray a naval commander, might easily reprise his role as Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, but Jennifer Connolly’s future is uncertain.
Connolly made her cinematic debut in Top Gun: Maverick as Penny, the admiral’s daughter who was referenced in the first movie. Although it appears that Penny’s narrative is over, if she returns, Maverick will hopefully get married.
Meg Ryan, who played Carole, the wife of Goose and mother of Rooster, may make a cameo appearance in Top Gun 3, despite the fact that most people have forgotten she ever worked on the series. Her reappearance in the third picture would add to the “legacy” idea that runs throughout Rooster and be a pleasant throwback to the first one.
Top Gun 3 Release Date
We won’t see Top Gun 3 for a very long time, and this has nothing to do with the strikes that have paused Hollywood. Tom Cruise is an extremely busy performer with the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, and a film that was totally shot in space. The projects listed here are only those that are openly accessible; more are probably in the works.
