In 2021, when Tanius Posey didn’t feel well, he went to the doctor. It was easy to figure out why: he was three months pregnant. The positive test result came as a big surprise to the transgender man, who was 31 years old at the time. But he decided to keep the pregnancy going on, and he doesn’t regret it.
He was born on January 3, 2022. Now, if you look at the photos and videos that his transgender father has posted, you can see that he is just a normal child who is learning to walk and loves being the center of attention.
Tanius decided to tell other people about being pregnant and giving birth. His TikTok channel now has more than 10 million likes and more than 980,000 people who follow it.
People often call Tanius the “seahorse dad” because male seahorses carry their young and give birth to them. But he is proud of his nickname, and he says that he uses every part of his body to raise a healthy child.
The transgender father says that he will keep breastfeeding as long as he is still able to do so. On top of that, Zanius wouldn’t drink from the bottle. Tanius replied to haters,
My child has to eat. I can’t sit there and starve him.
When Tanius found out he was going to be a father, he was in the middle of his transition. So he couldn’t continue to take testosterone. It wasn’t easy, and the lack of hormones made him feel sick.
In an interview, the young father said that he was afraid to breastfeed his child at first because he didn’t know how other people would react. But later, it became more important for him to take care of his child.
At first, Tanius asked for help from people who knew about breastfeeding. But none of them knew how to help the transgender father in a good way. So he did his own research and quickly learned everything he needed to know on his own.
Tanius knew he would get some pushback from people who didn’t understand his experience, and some people did say they didn’t believe him because of the assumptions they had in their minds. He was told that men shouldn’t be able to carry children and that, since he had already started to transition, he shouldn’t be stopping halfway because he was pregnant.
But none of these words were enough to hurt Tanius. He said he was very upset, but he realized later that he just needed to keep talking about what happened. The video diary that Tanius keeps on TikTok and the way he handles criticism might help another transgender father who is in a similar situation and wants to carry the pregnancy to term.
Posey says that everyone should know that trans men have babies and breastfeed them and that there’s nothing wrong with that. They love and want their babies, and they give them all the care and support they need.
Trans men are still men, even if they give birth and breastfeed. No matter what other people think, they stay true to who they are.
Now, Tanius still talks about being a parent on TikTok, has a YouTube channel, and posts interviews and podcasts about being a transgender person and giving birth.
