True Detective Season 4 is yet to be officially renewed by HBO. However, the announcement for the same is expected to follow really soon. Given that creator and writer of the show, Nic Pizzolatto, has already begun developing the storyline for the fourth season – it won’t be long before the official green light comes from HBO.

True Detective Season 4 Release Date
True Detective Season 1 came out in January 2014 and aired till March 2014. The second season ran from June 2015 to August 2015. The third season ran from January 2019 to February 2019. Given the break between the original two seasons, it is likely that True Detective Season 4 may return to HBO sometime in the summer of 2020.
However, at this point in time, True Detective Season 4 neither has a confirmed renewal nor a release date.
True Detective Season 4 Plot and Storyline
Given the format of the show, the fourth season is also likely to be an anthology. Similar to the previous seasons, it may take place across various time periods. Season 4 of the show may carry forward some events from Season 3 finale.
