Gustafsson vs Smith was the highlight of the night! Fans in attendance wanted to see their hometown hero win, but unfortunately, things didn’t go his way that night in June 2019. Gustaffson, after a grueling battle with Anthony Smith, lost in the fourth round when he submitted to a rear-naked choke at the 2:38 mark.
The match was the headliner of UFC Fight Night 153 as both the men involved in it were former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions and big names in their own right.
Gustafsson Retires: Reason for His Retirement
After the show ended, Alexander Gustaffson took off his gloves and declared that he is retiring from MMA. He made an official statement in the post-match press conference where he stated that it is pretty much a “done deal.”
Over the years, Gustaffson managed to have a record of 10-6 in the UFC and an overall MMA record of 18 wins and 6 losses.
