A source has confirmed that Valerie Bertinelli is indeed divorced, but that it cost her a lot of money.
The source got court documents that show Bertinelli and her ex-husband, Tom Vitale, got divorced on November 22. Bertinelli shared the news in a video, saying she was “happily divorced.” As part of the divorce agreement, Betinelli had to give Vitale $2.2 million.
The papers also say that both of them gave up spousal support as part of a prenuptial agreement. This had been a point of contention during the divorce proceedings. They will continue to live in separate places, with Bertinelli staying in Malibu permanently. The documents also make it clear that the $2.2 million she gave Vitale is on top of the $500,000 she gave him in cash on May 24.
Even though that may seem like a lot of money, it hasn’t stopped Bertinelli from having a good time. She posted on social media on Tuesday, when she was in an airport waiting area on her way to see her son Wolfgang Van Halen.
My lawyer just called. The papers were all signed. They are about to be filed.
Valerie added with a lot of joy,
On 11/22/22, I am officially f**king divorced! Happily divorced.
She also said,
It’s finally over.
The actress filed for a legal separation on November 24, 2021, and for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 12, 2022. She said that “irreconcilable differences” were the reason why the marriage had to end.
But don’t expect Bertinelli to go out again, even though she is now officially single. In May, she told Hoda Kotb, her co-host on the Today show, that she’s done with love and wants to be single for the rest of her life.
I am gonna be more than happy to be happily divorced and spend the rest of my life alone,
she said matter of factly.
I’ll be happy that way. Well, with my six cats and my dog and my son, and hopefully one day grandchildren.
Valerie Bertinelli didn’t say anything negative about it, for what it’s worth. In fact, Kotb kept asking the Food Network star if she thought she would ever look for love again, and Bertinelli kept pushing back.
Oh god, no,
she said.
