Tom Hardy’s New Twist to the Tale
“We know that the script is penned by Hardy himself along with director Kelly Marcel,” Tom Hardy disclosed in an Instagram post eight months after the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The beloved actor has taken a deeper dive into the world of Eddie Brock, adding another layer of credibility to the highly anticipated third installment of the Venom series.
“These things [usually] come in threes. If there’s going to be a new one – and they depend heavily on the success of each individual one, so you can’t count on them ever happening again – every one has got to be as if it was the last one,” Hardy told Digital Spy.
Kelly Marcel, no stranger to the franchise, is marking her directorial debut with Venom 3. She’s previously acted as both writer and producer on the first two Venom films and has been involved in other high-profile projects like Fifty Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks.
New Faces and Potential Comebacks
“Juno Temple will be featuring in an as-of-yet-announced role alongside fellow Marvel-chum, Chiwetel Ejiofor,” announced Deadline. While Juno Temple is making headlines with her performance in Ted Lasso, Ejiofor is known for his Marvel roots, portraying Mordo in the Doctor Strange films.
“At a recent Ted Lasso event, Temple revealed that she was due to begin filming ‘very, very soon’ and this has proven to be true as revealed by Production List, production began in earnest on June 5th 2023,” according to reports.
There’s also a murmur in the fan community about Michelle Williams reprising her role as Anne Weying, also known as She-Venom. “It’s about time Venom gives Michelle Williams her time to shine as She-Venom,” fans claim, hoping for the character’s evolution.
As for the other characters, Stephen Graham’s Patrick Mulligan has left a mark, especially with his mysterious ending in the previous film. Could he play a bigger part in the upcoming movie?
The Plot Thickens
Venom 2 ended on a note that had fans eager for more. The movie hinted at Mulligan’s transformation into the character Toxin. According to reports, “The last we saw of Mulligan, his eyes flashed blue and he was raving about monsters.” This could very well be the setup for his Toxin role in Venom 3.
“A hundred per cent. I mean, I think there’s so much potential in the Venomverse for really interesting journeys before kind of the inevitable happens,” Andy Serkis told ComicBook.com.
Serkis also hinted at a possible crossover with Spider-Man in a future installment. Yet, he is more interested in diving into the Spider-Verse villains before a showdown with the web-slinger.
When Will Venom 3 Hit The Screens?
Sony Pictures is confident about sticking to the announced release date: July 12. Despite hurdles like the Writers Guild of America Strike, the script was finalized before the strike even began. “The SAG-AFTRA strike also began very shortly after this but Sony Pictures seem confident they will still make the 12th of July,” according to Variety.
Final Thoughts
With an array of new and returning characters, a plot thickened by previous storylines, and the added allure of Tom Hardy‘s involvement in the script, Venom 3 is gearing up to be a blockbuster worth the wait. Whether or not it will feature appearances from Spider-Man or introduce new symbiotes like Knull, one thing is clear: the Venomverse is expanding, and fans are here for it.
“That would be the sandbox I’d be really interested in playing in. Who’s lurking in there that could break out?” Serkis questioned, leaving fans excited for what’s to come.
So, whether you’re a die-hard fan or a casual viewer, Venom 3 promises to bring something for everyone, enriching the Venomverse with every frame.
