Crowds are claiming that such an underappreciated movie ‘In Time‘ from 2011 accurately forecasted the current day situation in our world. Numberless movies have been out in the past few years which are critically acclaimed for predicting the future as is. For an instance, the show Simpsons has forecasted real-time events for the future so many times.
Supporters seem to think Arnold Schwarzenegger’s masterpiece The Running Man accurately forecasts people’s interest in violent competitive programs. Others believe that Perhaps the Truman Show, featuring Jim Carrey, indicated that audiences would embrace reality television shows like The Kardashians and Big Brother. However, one movie, in particular, has been said to have accurately prophesied society these days. In Time is a 2011 film starring Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy, Olivia Wilde, and Amanda Seyfried.
The film In Time’s original narrative, written and directed by Andrew Niccol, centers around time becoming a currency and individuals stopping aging just after the age of 25, implying that perhaps the affluent survive for a long period of time whereas the poor die early. Will Salas (Timberlake) is currently on the edge of his demise and doesn’t really have much time left.
Having been granted almost 100 years of life, he takes advantage of it by entering into a partnership with the daughter of a famous and influential man (Seyfried) in order to overthrow the rich and morally bankrupt man. Although the film was made on a budget of only $40 million, it grossed an incredible $174 million.

Moreover, American film critic, based in New York City. Stephanie Zarcharek wrote in her review: “The movie doesn’t punish its characters for being young and beautiful. Instead, it revels in the sight of them, and that’s just one of the ways Niccol makes sure that his movie, despite its blunt message, never succumbs to preachiness.”
Especially after the mixed reactions to the film, many claim that In Time foresaw the current capitalist system. Supporters however are praising the movie for accurately forecasting the emergence and significance of electronic money.

But what caught me in is the realistic portrayal of society, where the rich keep getting rich and the poor dies. Timely and relevant isn’t it?
