Vivian Jenna Wilson, previously known as Xavier Alexander Musk before undergoing a gender transition, reportedly disclosed her transgender status to her aunt through a text message. She requested that her aunt keep this information confidential from her father.
On her 18th birthday in 2022, she officially requested to legally change her name and gender on her birth certificate through a court petition.
The reason for this change was her gender identity and the need to separate herself from Musk and eliminate any connection to him.

During a conversation with Dr. Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk disclosed that he felt deceived into giving his approval for his mother, Justine, to undergo transitioning treatment despite her support.
“I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier.”
He further added,
“This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion.”
Vivian Jenna Wilson reported that initially, Musk was hesitant and well-informed about the consequences of transitioning. Musk characterized the transition as a consequence of being infected by a “woke mind virus,” and he admitted that he felt like he had lost his son.
He also disapproved of her political stance, accusing her of holding the belief that all wealthy individuals were wicked, attributing this view to her expensive private education, which he deemed as “communist.”
Wilson countered his assertions by denouncing him for using the wrong gender pronouns and making up stories about her upbringing. She also accused him of not being present in her life and emphasized her legal acknowledgement as a female, declaring her disinterest in being connected to him.
