A female server recently tested the idea that wearing pigtails will increase tips for waitresses on her TikTok account. And, to put it mildly, the reaction to her video has been mixed.
Earlier this month, Bella Woodard addressed her 84,000 fans in a video. “Okay, so, I saw this TikTok about this girl, she’s a waitress and I’m a waitress, and how she gets more tips when her hair’s in pigtails, for some weird, crazy reason.”
The 21-year-old video creator separates her blonde locks into two portions and puts a few pigtails in herself after wearing her hair down at the beginning of the one-minute clip.
“Okay I literally look insane right now so I’m gonna braid these pieces, and if this works I’m just gonna say like that is so weird and gross, but I’m down for more tips — so it doesn’t matter,” Woodard says in the video, which has since racked up more than 5 million views.
After the waitress’s shift is through, the film goes to Woodard confirming that the hair-related trick does really work.
“Y’all were not lying,” the waitress said. “I got a $135 tip by one guy tonight. Wear pigtails to work, I’m about to be doing this every day.”
It goes without saying that the reaction to her experiment was uneven, with one user commenting:”This is really sad.”
The TikToker did, however, also receive a flood of encouraging remarks, with many people sharing their own related experiences.
One person shared: “Omg yes i get so many compliments from my tables when i do pigtails.”
Another person wrote: Woodard was just trying to make the best of a difficult circumstance. “Ask not what you can do for the patriarchy, but what the patriarchy can do for you.”
