In a recent sports conference, Kevin Durant revealed that he could smell marijuana from Adam Silver, the NBA Commissioner, when he had a meeting the Silver to remove marijuana from the banned substance list in NBA.
Kevin Durant’s Efforts to Influence NBA’s Stance on Marijuana Ban
The co-anchor of Squawk Box, Andrew Ross Sorkin, had a chit-chat on various topics with the Phoenix Suns’ star player, Kevin Durant. Andrew discussed various topics with Kevin, but he softly touched on the point of marijuana.
Sorkin asked Kevin about how he was able to persuade the NBA commission, Adam Silver, to unban marijuana from the banned substance list in NBA.
Andrew asked Kevin:
“So what did you tell Adam?”
“How did you persuade him?”
To which Kevin replied:
“Well, he smelled it when I walked in.”
Kevin added:
“So I didn’t really have to say much, you know what I’m saying? He kind of understood where this was going…It’s the NBA, man… everybody does it, to be honest. It’s like wine at this point.”
Kevin told Andrew that he didn’t hesitate to ask Silver to remove marijuana from the list of banned substances.

He further added:
“I just felt like it was becoming a thing around the country, around the world…The stigma behind it wasn’t as negative as it was before. It doesn’t affect you in any negative way.”
To this, Andrew asked Kevin what Silver said to him in response. Kevin said he agreed to me.
NBA Removes Marijuana Ban: Kevin Durant’s Long-standing Support Pays Off
Kevin Durant has been a strong supporter of unbanning marijuana from the NBA’s banned substance list for a long time. He had been advocating marijuana for around 3 years before the ban was finally lifted.
So, now as a part of a new bargaining agreement, marijuana is no longer a banned substance in NBA.
Not only has Kevin Durant worked hard to get the ban removed, but he has also invested a major chunk of his earnings into cannabis-related companies through Thirty-Five Ventures.
