Martin promised that Book 5 A Dance with Dragons would be published within a year. But book 5 was only published six years later, in 2011. That was when Game of Thronescame into the picture. Martin gave his fans hope once again by being optimistic that book 6 would be published in 2012. It has been more than 11 years since then, and book 6 hasn’t seen the light of day yet. Martin has a whole set of reasons for the delay. He has expanded Westeros’s world and brought in many new characters. Despite building a realistic feeling universe, Martin struggles to bring the story to the satisfying conclusion it deserves.

“I made a lot of progress on Winds in 2020, and less in 2021… but ‘less’ is not ‘none’.”
Talking about the other Westerosi projects, the author said that all of the projects are equally important for him. The Winds of Winter is expected to publish in November this year.
