Ever since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Sam Levinson’s The Idol has been making a buzz online. The series creator Sam Levinson is well-known for Euphoria which stars such as Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, among others. Levinson’s all-new series features Johnny Depp‘s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, in leading roles.
Where To Stream The Idol Online?
The American TV drama is created by Sam Levinson, The Weeknd, and Reza Fahim and is streaming on HBO Max. As for the Indian fans, HBO Max isn’t currently available in India. The show is also co-written and produced by the popular singer-turned-actor, The Weeknd. It stars Lily-Rose Depp in the lead role, who plays Jocelyn, an aspiring pop star dealing with a nervous breakdown that led to the cancellation of her tour. It follows Jocelyn’s journey as she tries to revive her pop star career with the help of a self-help guru, Tedros, and their complicated relationship. Tedros is played by Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd.
In an interview with the New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis, Levinson, Abel, and Lily talked about the show. When asked about the genesis of The Idol, Euphoria creator Levinson and singer Abel responded-
Levinson- The genesis was he said, “Look, if I wanted to start a cult, I could. And I don’t know if that’s necessarily a good thing.”
Abel- I actually don’t remember saying that [laughs]. I think I was just trying to say anything to finally work with you. I’ve always wanted to work with Sam; we’ve been friends forever.
The show has received a lot of mixed reviews from fans and critics alike due to its raw portrayal of a pop star’s life and the representation of race and gender. Dargis posed the question of whether they are worried about how the show will be received and both Lily and Abel said that “the show isn’t for everyone”.
Lily- We always knew that we were going to make something that was going to be provocative and perhaps not for everyone. That was a draw for all of us. I don’t think any of us were interested in making anything that was going to be, you know, fun for the whole family.
Abel- When I first started making music, it was the exact same thing. It was provocative, and I knew it was going to be tough for people. And a lot of people didn’t like it. Not to compare it, but I feel that this is kind of like that again. This is not going to be for everybody, and that’s fine. We’re not politicians.
How To Watch The Idol In India?
Despite its critical reviews, fans of The Weeknd and Sam Levinson are desperate to watch the show. While the American audience can enjoy the show on HBO Max, Indian fans are left wondering where to stream it.
