Did you know that Star Wars creator, George Lucas helped direct an episode of Game of Thrones Season 8? That’s right, the mastermind behind one of the most popular movie and series franchises visited the set and gave a few directions to the actors. Read more to find out which GoT episode Lucas helped direct.
Which Episode of Game of Thrones Was Directed by George Lucas?
In a YouTube video shared by HBO’s Game of Thrones handle, we saw the Star Wars creator roaming around the Season 8 Episode 1 filming sets. The HBO show was at its peak popularity when Season 8 was about to drop and the fans were desperately waiting for the final season to drop. Fans’ excitement would’ve known no bounds if they had an idea that Lucas was pacing around the sets of the show.
While director David Nutter was directing the first episode of the last season, Lucas came over to join the director on the filming set. The show’s co-creator David Benioff did not believe when he first heard that Lucas will be visiting the sets. He said-
“When we found out George Lucas wanted to visit, we thought maybe it was a practical joke. We were really excited and also nervous because it’s George Lucas.”
“The first time I can remember telling stories was me as a kid meshing together these little stormtrooper dolls. He’s the one who started our obsession with this kind of epic storytelling.”
The video clip showcased the making and behind-the-scenes of last season’s episode 1 titled ‘Winterfell‘. Lucas accompanied Nutter on the sets while he was directing and recalled,
“George would be sitting in my director’s chair. It was so cool for me. I heard George go out and speak to Kit and Emilia.”
We then see Lucas joke around with actors Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke between takes. He can be heard addressing Jon Snow played by Kit Harington-
“That was great, no direction for you,”
“I don’t really care about you. I don’t care what happens to you.”
It seemed like Lucas wasn’t a Jon Snow fan. Although, this wasn’t the first time we saw the world of Star Wars and Game of Thrones clashing. Emilia Clarke was also seen as a part of the cast of the Star Wars spin-off Solo. And the noble Brienne of Tarth played by actress Gwendoline Christie has starred as Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
