Ted Lasso is known for dropping odd and obscure pop culture references for quite some time.
From the references to romantic comedies in Season 2 of Ted Lasso’s “Rom-Communism” episode to the nearly perfect recreation of Allen Iverson’s “practice” speech in Season 1, the show is full of references that not all viewers are expected to understand.
In Season 3, Episode 9 of Ted Lasso, Coach Beard, and two famous guitarists were in one of the funniest scenes. The coach argued with reporters about whether Jimmy Page or Joe Walsh is the best guitarist of all time. But who are these famous artists anyway?
Who is Jimmy Page?
Jimmy Page is the lead guitarist for the rock band Led Zeppelin, which he started. Page has been making music since the 1960s, mostly with Led Zeppelin. He is now 79 years old. Before they broke up in the late 1980s, the band put out nine studio albums.
Page himself is widely thought to be one of the best guitarists of all time. He was named the third-best guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone, after his friends Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Page got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and Led Zeppelin got in again in 1995.
Who is Joe Walsh?
The most well-known thing about Joe Walsh is that he is the lead guitarist for the rock band Eagles. He was also in the James Gang, Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, and The Best.
Walsh and the Eagles released seven albums together. Six of them came out in the 1970s, which is when the band broke up. Walsh went on to have a solo career, and a few of his songs made it to the Billboard 200. However, in 2012, he and the Eagles got back together.
Walsh was ranked 54th on Rolling Stone’s all-time list, and then with Eagles, he got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
