Who is Alissa McCommon?
Alissa McCommon is a former fourth-grade teacher who is currently facing serious charges related to her involvement with a 12-year-old student. The alleged incident occurred at her residence in Tennessee.
The ex-grade teacher at Tipton County Schools, Alissa McCommon, is a mother of two daughters. However, she has chosen not to reveal details about her spouse or current marital status.
According to Covington Police Chief Donna Turner, a troubling event occurred in 2021 involving a 12-year-old student who had previously been taught by McCommon at Challenger Academy. McCommon was working as an elementary school teacher at the time.
On August 24, 2023, the school district was made aware of McCommon’s inappropriate behavior after a concerned parent reported it. As a result, the school swiftly suspended McCommon.
Upon further examination, it was discovered that McCommon had formed improper relationships with several students on social media. She had sent them indecent images and made advances of a sexual nature.
Alissa McCommon’s Arrest
The Covington Police Department arrested McCommon at her home and she is now in custody with a bond set at $25,000. She was seen wearing handcuffs, a burgundy long-sleeved t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and sneakers before being taken to Tipton County Jail.
Throughout the investigation, Alissa McCommon admitted to having inappropriate conversations with former students. The disclosure of this occurrence greatly troubled and angered numerous parents. Several voiced their frustration and disappointment upon finding out about it via a Facebook post two weeks later.
Due to their lack of confidence in the school district, some parents are now considering homeschooling their children. They are also turning to the Tipton School Board for clarification.
Bianca Taylor, a parent, became aware of this issue when her son came home from school and told her that there was a substitute teacher because the school claimed the regular teacher was feeling ill.
The Criminal Investigations Division of the Covington Police Department, along with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, collaborated to uncover 21 individuals who may have been victimized in their investigation. These potential victims were between the ages of 12 and 17.
Alissa McCommon’s Trial
The trial date for Alissa McCommon, the former teacher at Charger Academy in Covington who is facing charges of child rape and sexual misconduct involving minors, has been rescheduled. The original trial date of Aug. 19 was postponed during a court hearing on May 20. The new trial date has been set for Jan. 21, 2025.
On March 11, 2024, McCommon appeared in court and entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges, such as child rape and sexual misconduct involving minors. According to Covington Police, a Tipton County Grand Jury indicted the ex-educator on 23 counts on March 8.

In March 2024, Alissa McCommon, a former teacher in Tipton County, was accompanied by her new defense lawyer in court, where she entered a plea of not guilty for a total of 23 additional charges related to sexual misconduct.
