Deborah Dubois, also known as the wife of Adler Berriman Seal (or Barry Seal), is a well-known American celebrity. She was Barry’s third and last wife until his unfortunate passing in 1986, which marked the end of their marriage.
After being charged with drug trafficking and other illegal actions, Barry Seals was taken into custody before his death. As a result, the government confiscated his assets and belongings, leaving his wife and children to rely on his life insurance for their survival.
Deborah Dubois & Barry Seal
At the age of 21, Deborah’s first encounter with Seal occurred while working at a restaurant. This happened sometime in 1972 when Barry happened to stop by on his way to a court hearing. During their initial meeting, the pilot invited Deborah on a date and she was captivated by his friendly demeanor, appearance, and adventurous tales.
In 1973, the couple eventually tied the knot and had three children: Aaron, Dean, and Christina. Deborah Dubois has stated that, unlike her character in the film, American Made, she was not aware of her husband’s involvement in illegal drug trafficking.
Deborah Seal née Dubois, the third wife of Barry Seal, sold the rights to her deceased husband’s life story to executives. Following the sale of the rights to Seal’s story to Universal Pictures, the company compensated her with a total of $350,000. The movie starred Tom Cruise in the lead role portraying Barry Seal on the big screen.
As such, we can conclude that while adapting Lucy’s character from Deborah, the film took some creative liberties.
During a discussion with the Daily Mail in 2015, Deborah expressed her opinion on the movie, stating,
“To me, the film serves as a strong reminder of the significance of love.”
“I thought Sarah Wright was lovely, but on one of the scenes where she was yelling at Barry and swinging at him, I thought to myself that’s not me.”
Deborah’s Life After Barry Seal’s Death
The Seal family experienced a terrible loss on February 19, 1986, when Barry Seal was fatally shot outside a Salvation Army Center. Upon hearing the news of her husband’s passing from a friend, Deborah attempted to travel to Barry’s location with her children.
Deborah Dubois recalled the experience stating,
“I was stuck in traffic, so I stopped at a pay phone. I told them [Deborah’s friend], I don’t know which hospital to go to. They said, Debbie, just go home. He is not going to a hospital. I told my children their father was dead. I got them home. Then I went to the kitchen and just cried.”
Following Barry’s passing, the majority of his assets and possessions were seized by the IRS due to his participation in the illicit drug trade and other unlawful endeavors. Consequently, Deborah and her children were forced to rely on Barry’s life insurance and adjust to a more modest lifestyle, having gone from luxury to simplicity overnight.
Even after many years since Barry’s death, Deborah Dubois was still plagued by unanswered questions about her husband’s murder. She couldn’t shake the suspicion that one of the people responsible for his death had contacted her, requesting a meeting to reveal who had hired them. Unfortunately, this person abruptly stopped communicating before revealing any more information.
Is Deborah Dubois alive? Where is she now?
Currently, Deborah Dubois leads a private lifestyle. In the late 2010s, she received some attention when ‘American Made’ was released, but she only shared limited details about her personal life.
Deborah stated that she doesn’t enjoy attention and is a very private person.
I’m worried that people might come out of the woodwork [after the film’s release]. I don’t like attention on me. But I’m not on social media, so I don’t expose myself a lot. I’m very private.”
Based on the most recent information, Deborah, who never married again, resided with her daughter, Christina. However, limited details are available about the woman’s private life.
