Cliff Sims is an American author, entrepreneur, and former director of communications. He started the “Yellowhammer” company. He also remained the assistant communications director for White House message strategy. Let’s get to know more about his life and career in this article.
Who Is Cliff Sims?
Cliff Sims was born on 17th February, 1984 in Enterprise, Alabama, United States of America. Throughout his book tour, Sims has mentioned his time as a basketball player at Delta State University. After graduation, he became the chair of the College Republicans chapter at the University of Alabama. He oversaw State Representative Barry Moore of Alabama’s 2010 campaign. Sims pursued a range of musical endeavours during and after college, fronting bands such as “Moses” and “Colour Academy,” which appeared on MTV.
Cliff Sims’ Career
Sims started a conservative political blog named “Yellowhammer” while still in college. Yellowhammer News, a statewide news outlet, and several other politically connected endeavours later sprang from the blog. The website often boasted about its connections to Republican politicians across the state, drawing criticism for it as well.
Sims stepped away from Yellowhammer in 2016 to work as an advisor for Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, coinciding with the rise in the campaign of then-Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Sims was appointed as a special assistant to the president and assistant communications director for White House message planning following Trump’s election.
Sims sold Yellowhammer upon entering the White House. Sims’ departure from the White House to join Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s senior advisory team was announced in May 2018. But the position never came about, and soon after, rumours of a confrontation with Chief of Staff John Kelly regarding a signed University of Alabama football surfaced.
Sims declared in November of 2018 that he was penning a book about his White House experiences. The book took inspiration from George Stephanopoulos’ candid memoir “All Too Human,” which detailed his experiences living in the Clinton White House. The book was written by “someone who took copious notes as part of his job,” according to the publishers.
“Team of Vipers” came out in the midst of Sims’s media tour. The president was given a list of White House “enemies” by Sims, according to the book. The assertions were promptly rejected by the president.
Cliff Sims, a low-level staffer whom I barely knew, wrote another dull book based on fiction and made-up stories. Trump took exception at Sims directly on Twitter. He was merely a gofer, but he put on the act of being an insider. President Donald Trump is not too thrilled about Cliff Sims’s new book, Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House, which is a tell-all about his experiences working for the president.
Initially, Sims was referred to by Trump in a tweet as a “gofer” and a “low-level staffer that I hardly knew,” who based his book on “stories and fiction.” Additionally, Trump mentioned that Sims signed a non-disclosure agreement, which was purportedly designed to stop this kind of activity. Michael Glassner, the COO of the Trump campaign, announced eighteen minutes later that the team was preparing to sue Sims for breaking the NDA.
