Brian Rader is most renowned for being the son of Dennis Lynn Rader, an American serial killer and BTK (Blind, Torture, and KiLL) strangler. He was captured and documents show that from 1974 until 1991, he killed ten individuals in Park City and Wichita, Kansas.
Brian is an American citizen, who served in the Submarines of the US Navy from 2004 to 2009.
Who Is Brian Rader?
Brian Rader was born on November 30, 1975, in Kansas, in the United States of America. Brian was born to Dennis Rader and his ex-wife Paula Dietz. Brian Rader grew up in the company of his younger sister, Kerri Rawson.
Brian avoided his father’s mistakes and maintained a spotless record. He was awarded the Eagle Scout badge, the highest accomplishment award in the Boy Scouts of America’s Scouts BSA programme, after serving for five years in the US Navy.
When his father was arrested in February 2005, he was stationed at a sub-base in Connecticut. There was no way Brian could have saved his father from the legal system because his father had been found guilty and the evidence had been proven false.
Brian has made the decision to keep his relationship with his father private from the press. But according to his sister, Brian’s father once tried to choke him for ruining supper, and she also mentioned that Brian would soon have to move out. That doesn’t seem like the perfect father-son dynamic. Dennis treated his family as “Pawns in his game,” showing no regard for them.
The family resided at 6220 Independence in Park City. In March 2007, their house went up for auction and brought in $90,000.
Brian Rader’s Parents
Brian’s mother, Paula Dietz, was born on May 5, 1948, in Park City, Kansas, in the United States of America. During her professional years, she was employed as a bookkeeper at a Kansas bookstore.
Brian’s father graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University and an associate’s degree from the esteemed Butler County Community College. He presided over a Christ Lutheran Church council.
Dennis Rader, Brian’s father, moved from Pittsburgh, Kansas to Park City to work in the meat department of a Leekers IGA grocery after serving in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970. It was during this time that he first met Paula Dietz. A few months after their first meeting, the young couple went on a courtship that ended in a secret wedding ceremony on May 22, 1971.
Dennis Lynn Rader and his wife, Paula Dietz, welcomed their first child, Brian Rader, a few years after the wedding. Their second child, Kerri Rawson, was born five years after their first child.
After Dennis was arrested and charged with various degrees of murder, Brian’s mother, Paula Dietz, sought a divorce from his father. Dennis and Paula remained married for over thirty-five years, or roughly 34 years.
Paula did not attend the court hearing that would have decided Dennis Rader’s fate, nor did she and her kids pay him a visit when he was incarcerated.
Brian Rader’s Father’s Imprisonment
After being found guilty of 10 counts of first-degree murder, Brian’s father—the BTK strangler—was given a 175-year life sentence without the possibility of release. He was taken into custody at El Dorado Correctional Facility on February 25, 2005. Brian was thirty years old when his father was taken into custody. And while he hasn’t yet spoken out on his father’s transgressions, Kerri Rawson, his younger sister, who was 27 at the time, has.
She penned a book describing her encounter with her father, a serial killer, how she kept in touch with him after he was taken into custody, and the reasons behind her obtaining a formal cease-contact order against him prior to his passing.
