Erica Schmidt is a Princess Grace Award-winning writer, theatre director, and actor who rose to prominence as the spouse of Peter Dinklage, the Emmy Award-winning star of “Game of Thrones.” Even though the Game of Thrones star only brought her into the public eye after they were married, she had already made her mark in the stage and film industry. But she and Peter have both deliberately chosen to withhold as much personal information about themselves as possible, even avoiding social media.
Who Is Erica Schmidt?
Erica Schmidt was born in the USA, on June 8, 1975. Not much is known about her parents on social media as she is very private. She joined the comedy club Laughing Stock at Vassar College because she enjoyed acting and the arts.
Erica Schmidt’s Career
Following her graduation from college, Erica moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and started working as a costume designer at “Julliard.” She became sufficiently motivated to begin treating theatre more seriously during her time at “Julliard.” Her first job was as a deck stage manager for the “Jesus Christ Superstar” production at “St. Mark’s Youth and Young Adult Theatre Ministries.”
She then went on to direct “As You Like It,” her first significant film, in 2000. The highly regarded production “Spanish Girl” (2002) was one of her more well-known works at the time. “Debbie Does Dallas,” which Erica Schmidt directed the next year, became her first significant critical success. In the same year, she made her screen debut in the motion picture “Miles from Nowhere.”
In an interview subsequently, Erica acknowledged that despite her success as a director, a large portion of her formative years were dedicated to pursuing her acting ambitions.
Erica Schmidt’s perseverance was recognised in 2001 when she was given the “Princess Grace Award” in recognition of her exceptional work. In her subsequent directing endeavours, such as “People Be Heard” (2004) and “Uncle Varya” (2008), Erica produced consistently excellent work.
Her other highly regarded pieces include “Invasion” (2011) and “The Burnt Part Boys” (2009). In the wildly popular “A Month in the Country,” which starred her husband Peter Dinklage and Emmy-nominated actress Taylor Schilling in 2015, Erica Schmidt served as director. Critically lauded directing endeavours such as “All the Fine Boys” (2017) and “Cyrano” (2018) were her next endeavours. But being the spouse of “Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage gave her the most of her notoriety in the public media.
Erica Schmidt And Peter Dinklage
Meeting Schmidt, according to Dinklage, was like anything from a “crazy, romantic movie.” Dinklage stated in a 2021 interview with The New York Times that the two first met in New York City at the home of a mutual acquaintance.
“It was about 18 years ago now. We were all at a friend’s house and someone said, ‘They’re walking the elephants through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel.’ The circus was in town and it was snowing, and they were walking the elephants through Manhattan, a long line of them. It was like something out of a beautiful, fantastical, end-of-the-world, crazy, romantic movie,” Dinklage recalled. “See? I always think about movies. So that’s the night we met, the night the elephants walked through Manhattan.”
In 2005, Dinklage and Schmidt eloped in Las Vegas. “I was going there for a charity event,” Dinklage said during a 2016 interview with The New York Times. “And then while we were there, we just decided to do it. It was a bit lonely. We got a VHS videocassette of the wedding that no one will ever see, that we’ve buried in a box deep beneath the earth’s core.”
Their first daughter was born in December 2011, and they welcomed their second child in September 2017. The couple has refused to share the name of either child and the gender of their youngest and laughed at false rumours that their daughter was named Zelig.
