Fabien Frankel was born in West London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to English actor Mark Frankel and French-Italian advertising executive Caroline Besson.
His grandmother on his father’s side was of Indian and Iraqi Jewish descent. On the other hand, his grandfather’s family was Jewish immigrants from Poland and Russia who settled in London’s East End.
At the age of two, Frankel’s dad passed away in a car crash, leaving his pregnant mother to raise him and his younger brother Max in London. They were both taught French by their mother and were exposed to the world of film through weekly trips to the movie theater.
