Gijs van der Most And Michelle Buteau
Michelle and Gijs met each other in the late 2000s and started their journey with a long-distance relationship for 2 years. Michelle believed she would never be married, but the couple ultimately made the decision to move forward in their relationship.
In 2010, they thought of getting together for a lifetime and decided to get married. The couple got married on July 31, 2010, marking the start of a new chapter in their lives. Buteau posted a picture from their big day in the year 2020 along with the caption, “Today makes 10 years. If I knew then what I know now, I’d still do that shit. Love is everything y’all.”
After being married, the couple has been living a happy life, but having kids hasn’t been easy for them. They made an attempt to procreate, but were unsuccessful. The comedian disclosed that she was diagnosed with Prolactinoma. This condition is essentially caused by elevated amounts of a hormone that affects breast milk production and can lead to infertility.
They continued trying for an additional year, during which Buteau underwent several IVF cycles and experienced four miscarriages. Her mother intervened to provide financial support when the couple attempted to sell their home in order to pay for a surrogate. At last, they located a surrogate who gave birth to their twins, Otis and Hazel van der Most in January 2019. The couple rarely posts pictures of their kids on social media, and when they do, they make sure to hide their faces.
After witnessing Michelle, the host of The Circle, suffer, Gijs actually persuaded her to choose surrogacy. “My husband said, ‘You know, I want you back. You are so unhappy and just physically wrecked.’”
“It’s so crazy when you find a partner that you actually like that is good for you that makes you want to feel like you can do anything. And that makes you feel like you want to also be a better person,” she said.
