Why Was Jake Gravbrot Featured On The ‘Something Was Wrong’ Podcast?
Jake Gravbrot had already achieved a certain level of notoriety in Seattle, but his fame spread across the country when he became the focus of season 14 of the Something Was Wrong podcast running from October to December 2022.
Tiffany Reese created the award-winning podcast Something Was Wrong in 2018. The show is dedicated to giving a voice to those who have suffered from emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, coercive control, and gaslighting in their family or romantic relationships.
It has become a huge success since its launch, with its most talked-about episode being that of Jake Gravbrot. In Season 14 of Something Was Wrong, Tiffany Reese had conversations with a group of 11 women who shared a common experience: Jake Gravbrot.
These women courageously recounted their harrowing ordeals, shedding light on the emotional, physical, and verbal abuse they endured at the hands of Gravbrot. Furthermore, they revealed the distressing impact of this abuse on the children some of them shared with him.
Among the women who came forward to share their experiences regarding Jake Gravbrot were Kaylan von Sothen and Melissa Mullinnex. These brave individuals, along with others, made allegations about Gravbrot’s disturbing treatment of women.
He was said to have a history of demeaning behavior towards women and even boasted about his numerous one-night stands. In one of his text messages, he arrogantly referred to himself as “disgustingly awful” with women.
The women’s allegations extended beyond emotional, verbal, and physical abuse, encompassing sexual misconduct. According to their accounts, Jake Gravbrot exhibited predatory behavior and emotional manipulation.
Some of them claimed that they were coerced into sexual acts through intimidation. Shockingly, there was an incident where Gravbrot engaged in sexual activity with a woman while she was asleep, unable to provide consent.
Additionally, the women alleged that Gravbrot violated their privacy by secretly recording their intimate encounters without their consent, creating a deeply distressing situation.
Online Petitions Against Jake Gravbrot
The women who made allegations against Jake Gravbrot didn’t just share their stories on the podcast; they also gathered evidence, including text messages and Instagram posts. One post displayed a camera pointed at his bed, supposedly for monitoring his cat.
They presented this evidence to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), and Tiffany Reese, the host of Something Was Wrong, contacted both SPD and the FBI.
However, the outcome was disappointing. The FBI redirected Reese to the state police, while the SPD insisted that the victims needed to file formal complaints before they could take action. While the requirement for formal complaints has a logical basis, the inflexibility of the police response received criticism.
The podcast also sparked public outrage. Many individuals expressed their anger on Jake Gravbrot’s Instagram page. Additionally, there’s a change.org petition urging SPD to hold Jake Gravbrot accountable. This petition, initiated in December 2022, has garnered nearly 31,000 signatures.
Jake Gravbrot was extended an invitation to appear on the podcast and provide his perspective, but he declined the interview. He has maintained a relatively low profile in response to the serious allegations. Gravbrot did release a statement through his attorney, vehemently denying all the accusations made against him.
On the other hand, the women involved are not primarily focused on seeing him incarcerated. Their main concern is for the authorities to locate and secure any recordings that he might possess involving them.
