Who is Manuela Escobar?
Manuela Escobar was born on May 25, 1984, during the rise of Pablo Escobar as a prominent drug lord. She had a single older brother, Juan Pablo, who was born in 1977.
As Manuela was still young when her father was crowned the “King of Cocaine,” she most likely did not fully comprehend his occupation. However, she was aware that her father would go to great lengths to make her happy.
Despite his infamous notoriety for violence, Pablo Escobar had a tender spot for his daughter. As the leader of the Medellín Cartel, he earned a staggering $70 million daily, giving him the means and willingness to fulfill his “princess’s” every desire with ease.
Manuela Escobar once requested a unicorn from her father. Instead of informing her that unicorns were not real, it is claimed that the criminal leader instructed his workers to purchase a white horse and attach a “horn” on its head and “wings” on its back. Sadly, the creature passed away due to a horrific infection.
As Pablo Escobar‘s illegal activities started to have consequences, he went to great lengths to protect his daughter. While the family was evading the authorities in the Colombian mountains during the early 1990s, he reportedly set fire to $2 million in order to keep his daughter from getting cold.
Soon after, the kingpin came to the realization that his loved ones were in danger if they stayed by his side. He then directed his wife, Maria Victoria Henao, to relocate their children to a secure residence with government security. In December 1993, Pablo Escobar met his death in the same brutal manner in which he lived.
Manuela Escobar’s Life After Pablo Escobar’s Death
Until now, Manuela Escobar remains the sole member of the Escobar clan who has never faced any allegations or involvement in unlawful activities. When her father, Pablo Escobar, was assassinated, she was only nine years old. Following this event, she has largely kept a very discreet public image.
In 1999, her mother and brother were arrested, but she was not. This was the first time in a while that there was any information about Pablo Escobar’s daughter, although the specifics were scarce. According to an article on the Colombian news website El Tiempo, Manuela Escobar was residing in Buenos Aires under the alias “Juana Manuela Marroquín Santos.”
During that period, she resided in a residential complex called Jaramillo. Despite rumors circulating that she and her brother had accumulated millions of dollars from stolen drug funds, Manuela Escobar’s lifestyle was not extravagant. In fact, she was facing difficulties in being considered part of the middle class.
Manuela Escobar is now widely recognized as one of the most renowned recluses globally, but her close relatives reveal that she has a sorrowful motive for avoiding the limelight. Since 1999, Pablo Escobar’s daughter has encountered various bouts of depression, and her psychological well-being seems to have deteriorated further.
Juan Pablo, who now goes by Sebastián Marroquín, has stated that his sister Manuela made a suicide attempt. As a result, she currently resides with her brother and his wife to ensure her well-being. Manuela Escobar is in her late 30s and it is uncertain if she will ever speak out or appear in public again.
