Jonathan Owens is a professional American football player who currently serves as a safety for the Chicago Bears in the NFL. He has also been a part of the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers. He is married to Simone Biles, a renowned American gymnast.
Early Life & Education
Jonathan James Owens was born on July 22, 1995, in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. He grew up in Missouri and completed his high school education at Christian Brothers College. He then attended Missouri Western from 2013 to 2017.
Owens attended Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) for high school, where he played football under coach Scott Pingel. Before that, he had attended Loyola Academy of St. Louis for middle school. Throughout his time at CBC, Owens excelled in his position as a linebacker and was awarded the title of CBC Linebacker of the Year.
Jonathan Owens’ Career
After the 2018 NFL draft, Jonathan Owens joined the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. However, during the final week of organized team activities before the 2018 season, he was released due to an injury and remained on injured reserve for the entire season. On August 31, 2019, the Cardinals decided to waive Owens.
In September 2019, Owens joined the Houston Texans’ practice squad. He was later moved up to the main roster on November 21, 2019, but was let go after two days and returned to the practice squad. On January 13, 2020, he finalized a reserve/future contract with the Texans.
After being released by the Texans on September 5, 2020, Jonathan Owens joined the practice squad the following day. He was promoted to the active roster on October 10 and 17 for the Texans’ games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans in weeks 5 and 6 and returned to the practice squad after each game. On December 12, 2020, he officially joined the active roster.
Jonathan Owens was released by the Texans on August 31, 2021, but was then brought back to the practice squad. He was later elevated to the active roster on December 4. On December 9, the Texans secured Owens for the next two years with a contract worth $1.175 million until the end of the 2022 season.
Owens made his first career interception and recovered his first fumble on December 26, 2021, helping the Texans secure an unexpected victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. However, on January 3, 2022, he was put on injured reserve after dislocating his wrist during the team’s defeat against the San Francisco 49ers in week 16.
Jonathan Owens joined the Green Bay Packers on May 12, 2023. He made his first career touchdown on Thanksgiving Day during a game against the Detroit Lions, recovering a fumble for a 27-yard score in a 29-22 victory for the Packers. On March 13, 2024, Owens inked a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

On February 15, 2022, Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles announced their engagement. After getting married on April 22, 2023, Jonathan was allowed to take a break from his training with the Chicago Bears to support Simone as she competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
