As Latham persisted in sharing videos of dangerous conduct, tensions rose due to an incident involving Durham’s sons, in which he revved his car engine and drove recklessly in the vicinity.
The TikTok video that went viral caused more strain in the relationship between Catherine’s husband, William Durham Sr, and their sons Billy and Gage. He had been causing trouble for six weeks before things escalated. The disagreement turned physical when, on May 4th, 2020, Latham reportedly tried to hit Gage Durham with his car. This prompted the Durhams to confront Latham at his residence.
The altercation turned aggressive, resulting in a deadly fight between Latham, who had knives and a stun gun, and the unarmed Durhams. Latham was accompanied by his wife and two friends. Amid the commotion, William Durham Sr., a corrections officer, was fatally wounded by a knife.
William was fatally wounded at 7:48 p.m. and pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Latham defended himself by saying that he was afraid for the well-being of himself, his loved ones, and his friends when he inflicted three stab wounds on William’s right forearm, right armpit, and back center.
He faced accusations of second-degree manslaughter, aggravated assault, and weapons violations at a later time. He could potentially face five to 10 years in jail and a $150,000 fine if convicted. Additionally, he was instructed to vacate New Jersey and relocate to Florida to await his day in court.
Case Verdict
In March 2023, Zachary’s court case began. The Durham family members gave testimonies during the proceedings, but Latham did not. Additionally, Catherine Durham and her relatives faced charges of trespassing and assault.
William Durham Jr. was enrolled in a pre-trial intervention program, while the outcome of Gage Durham’s case was not revealed due to his minor status. Nonetheless, both of their charges were ultimately dropped by Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
Zachary was declared innocent by the jury on April 13, 2023. The jury disregarded any evidence presented against him. Nevertheless, he is currently incarcerated at Lee County Jail in Florida, awaiting trial for other charges related to violating restraining orders, stalking, and sexual assault.
