Who is Trudie Styler?
Trudie Styler, the daughter of Pauline and Harry Styler, was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. At the age of two, she was struck by a van and suffered significant facial injuries which resulted in permanent scarring. She underwent numerous plastic surgeries until she turned 18.
For many years, she believed she was not attractive due to her classmates giving her the nickname “scarface”. She went to North Bromsgrove High School, where she was taught by singer-songwriter Clifford T. Ward.
Career
After receiving training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Trudie Styler proceeded to star in numerous period BBC dramas. She later became a member of the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company, where she took on several significant roles. Her theatrical repertoire also includes performances in The Vagina Monologues, Twin Spirits, and The Seagull.
Her acting credits span various British TV shows like The Mayor of Casterbridge and The Scold’s Bridle, as well as American shows like Empire, The Night Of, Friends (S8 Ep10), and Falling Water.
Styler has also starred in films such as Living Proof for Lifetime Television and The Next Three Days directed by Paul Haggis. Additionally, she has produced seven fitness DVDs in collaboration with Gaia, Inc.
During the mid-1990s, Styler founded Xingu Films, a production company focused on promoting emerging artists like Guy Ritchie, Dito Montiel, and Duncan Jones. In late July 2008, it was revealed that Xingu had acquired the rights to American Reaper, a graphic novel by Pat Mills, who would also pen the script.
Trudie Styler’s impressive repertoire includes both producing and co-directing numerous acclaimed films and documentaries, such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch by Guy Ritchie, Moon by Duncan Jones, and Moving the Mountain by Michael Apted, which earned the 1994 International Independent Documentary Award.
In 2011, Styler co-founded Maven Pictures with Celine Rattray in New York. Their first feature was Girl Most Likely, starring Kristen Wiig. Other films followed, including Filth, Black Nativity, Ten Thousand Saints, and American Honey, which won a Jury Prize at Cannes in 2016.
Trudie Styler made her directorial debut in 2017 with Freak Show, based on a New York Times bestseller. It stars AnnaSophia Robb, Alex Lawther, and Bette Midler. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Personal Life
On August 20, 1992, Trudie Styler and rock musician Sting were wed at the Camden Register Office. Two days later, they held a wedding blessing at the parish church of St Andrew in Great Durnford, Wiltshire, located in the southwest of England.
After an extramarital affair with Styler, Sting separated from his first wife, actress Frances Tomelty, in 1982. They officially divorced in 1984, which caused controversy as Tomelty happened to be Trudie Styler’s close friend. The Independent noted in 2006 that Tomelty and Sting were neighbors to Styler in Bayswater, west London, before their relationship.
Sting and Trudie Styler are parents to four children, three of whom were born before their marriage. Their names are Brigitte Michael (“Mickey”, born 19 January 1984), Jake (24 May 1985), Eliot Paulina (also known as “Coco”, 30 July 1990), and Giacomo Luke (17 December 1995).
Eliot, now known as Eliot Sumner, is a singer and the former frontman of the band I Blame Coco. The name of the Kentucky Derby champion horse, Giacomo, was inspired by Sting and Styler’s son, Giacomo Luke.
Even though Styler and Sting’s kids have grown up and moved out, the couple is now enjoying being grandparents to seven grandchildren. Joe, Sting’s son from a previous relationship, has three daughters and a son, and Mickey has a son named Akira Rogue Kantrowitz, whom she had with her estranged husband, Chris Kantrowitz.
