Game of Thrones actor Darren Kent has died at the age of 36. Kent took on the role of a goatherd from Slavers Bay in the acclaimed HBO series. Although his part was not a main character, he still managed to make an impression with his performance. The 36-year-old actor passed away on August 11, 2023, however, the cause of death remains unknown.
Who Was Darren Kent?
Despite not having a main role in GoT, Kent made sure his acting was noticed. He is also well-known for his appearances in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and EastEnders.
Kent was born and brought up in Essex on March 30, 1987. He was famously in the Season 4 concluding episode of Game of Thrones in 2014, portraying a goatherd who shows Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) the corpse of his child, who was killed by her dragons.
Kent, a 2007 alumnus of the Italia Conti Stage School, has also established himself as a director, helming an episode of the BBC show The Break in 2021 and the short movie You Know Me. His short movie was awarded best director and best short at the London International Monthly Film Festival in January.
How Did The GoT Actor Darren Kent Die?
On Tuesday, August 15, Carey Dodd Associates, the talent agency of the actor, announced his death on Twitter. A note of sorrow was included which said,
“It is with deep sadness we have to tell you that our dear friend and client Darren Kent passed away peacefully on Friday. His parents and best friend by his side. Our thoughts and love are with his family in this difficult time. Darren was not only a talented actor, director and writer, he was truly one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. It has been a privilege and pleasure to have been a part of his journey. RIP my friend♥”
The cause of death was not revealed by any of his close sources. Although, the Dungeons and Dragons actor was known to have several illnesses. Kent suffered from osteoporosis, arthritis, and an uncommon skin illness. It is uncertain if these medical issues played a role in his passing.
Osteoporosis is known to cause the bones to become fragile and weak. This occurs when the body fails to produce enough new bone to replace the old bone that is lost. Both genders are affected by this condition, however, it can be prevented through medications, proper nutrition, and exercise that puts strain on the bones.
Signs of arthritis can include pain, tightness, swelling, and inflammation. Arthritis can lead to difficulties in the hands or arms that can negatively affect their ability to work correctly.
Darren Kent Other Roles In Movies/Shows
Kent had his first acting roles in an episode of the British sitcom Shameless in 2004, and in the Kiefer Sutherland horror movie Mirrors in 2008. He was featured in a number of works, such as Marshal’s Law and Les Miserables, with his latest outing being the fantasy heist comedy, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, launching in March 2023.
In Game of Thrones, he was cast as a goatherd and instantly became well-known. He was featured in an episode after Zalla, his daughter, was burned by Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon. He is seen confronting Targaryen, holding his daughter’s corpse in his hands.
Kent was honoured with the Van D’or Award for Best Actor in 2012 for his performance as Danny, a young person with a rare medical condition which made exposure to sunlight dangerous, in the movie Sunny Boy.
He has also had roles in “Snow White and the Huntsman”, “Bloody Cuts”, “The Frankenstein Chronicles”, “Blood Drive”, “Green Fingers”, “EastEnders”, “Happy Hours”, “Love Without Walls” and “Birds Sorrow”.
Dungeons and Dragons director Jonathan Goldstein also expressed his sorrow after he heard the news of Kent’s passing. Goldstein called him a “sweet, talented, and funny actor.”
