Who was Maleesa Mooney?
The body of Maleesa Mooney, the 32-year-old sibling of Guyanese musician Jourdin Pauline, was discovered in her high-rise apartment in downtown Los Angeles this week.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that they received a call from the victim’s family on September 12, requesting a welfare check at an address on South Figueroa Street, close to the 110 Freeway.
When they arrived, they discovered the 32-year-old deceased in her apartment, and the circumstances surrounding her death were considered suspicious. Although the authorities have not revealed the specific cause of death, they have confirmed that they believe foul play was involved.
According to sources, the Los Angeles County Department Medical Examiner concluded that the cause of death for the 31-year-old model, who was found deceased in her downtown Los Angeles residence on September 12, was “homicidal violence.”
Reports suggest that the autopsy results uncovered that she had been physically assaulted, restrained, and confined in her refrigerator.
On September 6, Mooney was captured on video surveillance at her residence. After her mother requested a welfare check, her body was found on September 12.
According to the autopsy, there were signs of physical injury in some areas of her body. Tests on her body also revealed the presence of cocaine and alcohol, but it is unclear if these substances contributed to her death.
Jourdin Pauline mentioned in previous interviews that her family, including Mooney, hailed from Guyana, a small nation in South America. As stated on her website, Jourdin Pauline and her sister Maleesa Mooney were raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles after relocating to the area at the age of 6.
According to Jourdin Pauline, Maleesa had a gathering of friends at her Los Angeles apartment shortly before the family lost touch with her. After her friends departed, Maleesa remained at the apartment. This was apparently the final occasion she was spotted alive before the authorities discovered her deceased.

According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday, detectives have established Magnus Daniel Humphrey, a 41-year-old resident of Hopkins, Minnesota, as a suspect in Maleesa Mooney’s murder.
