According to Officer Russ Johnson of the California Highway Patrol, Richard Wolcott Carson, a 39-year-old resident of North Hollywood, was killed in a car accident on Friday.
Carson was driving on Cayucos Drive, a narrow road next to California 1 when he was thrown from his four-wheel-drive vehicle and fell 124 feet down a hill. The incident occurred in Cayucos, which is situated approximately 180 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
According to an NBC spokesperson, a private funeral was held on Sunday in Los Angeles. On Monday, Johnny Carson did not release any statements.
The talk show host had been getting ready to travel to the Wimbledon tennis tournament in England when he received the news of his son’s passing. Richard Carson was one of three adult sons from the comedian’s previous marriage to Joan Buckley. His other two children, Christopher (40) and Cory (38), are still alive.
