At the age of 71, actress Kirstie Alley died after a short but brave fight against cancer. On Tuesday morning, December 6, she had a message on her Instagram account that said,
To all our friends, far and wide around the world…We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.
The actress best known for her role on “Cheers” has said that she has been married twice and has dated both John Travolta and Patrick Swayze. The winner of an Emmy Award also wrote a book called “The Art of Men (I Prefer Mine al Dente)”.
Kirstie’s ex-husbands.
In 1970, the actress married her high school sweetheart, Bob Alley, who was also her first husband. In 1977, they started going their separate ways. After being with her boyfriend, Parker Stevenson, for almost two years, she married him in 1983. The couple also had two children, Lillie and William, of whom they were very proud. But a source says that in 1991, they got divorced. She once said,
There was no infidelity in my marriage, on either side … There was nothing other than maybe different goals in life,
regarding her marriage to Parker.
During this time, Parker gave an interview with People and said some more things, such as:
Kirstie and I are exact opposites. That’s what made it so interesting.
But he went on to say, “makes for not a good marriage,” which basically means “a bad marriage.” He also said that the process of getting a divorce was “ugly.” He said,
Kirstie and I are not friends now,
Parker says,
but we talk regularly about the kids. Will we be friends someday? I don’t know.
One of their mutual friends, Lewis Smith, was also interviewed at the same time as them and talked about them.
It was beautiful at the beginning,”
says his friend Smith,
“because they teased and challenged each other. They once both jumped into the pool together with all their clothes on. I said, ‘Are you crazy?’ And they said, ‘Yes, we are!
According to an article, Kirsten once said the following about her dating life:
I’m possibly doing this backward. I either need to find a husband or a really handsome roommate so that I am not afraid out on the farm, But then again, that could be a grave error, and I could end up on Dateline or 20/20. Life has gotten so complicated.
Kirstie’s relationships.
Even though the actress only got married twice, there were rumors that she was dating a number of famous people, and in fact, she did date a few of them. She dated a number of famous actors after her divorce, including Patrick Swayze and John Travolta, as you’ll see in the list below.
Patrick Swayze.
Kirstie has said that she and Patrick Swayze had an important, secret relationship while they were together. To a source she said,
Both of us were married. We did not have an affair. But again, I think what I did was worse. Because I think when you fall in love with someone when you’re married, you jeopardize your own marriage and their marriage. It’s doubly bad.
During the interview, she also said that she is friends with Lisa Niemi, who is Patrick’s wife. Kirstie also said that she wasn’t sure if Lisa knew about their relationship or not.
James Wilder.
James Wilder was one of the people she was close to for the longest time in her life. 1997 was the first year that she went out with James Wilder. The couple moved fast to take their relationship to the next level. Not long after they started dating, they announced that they were going to get married. In a later statement, however, she said,
I just did some real soul searching. And I didn’t like myself. I didn’t like what I’d become. I’d sort of become something I wasn’t. I didn’t like the way I was in relationships. I didn’t like who I was choosing. I was making a lot of mistakes. So what I decided was to really prioritize my life into what was important to me and what I wanted to be known for by myself,
as reported by a source.
John Travolta.
Rumors said that Kirstie went out with John Travolta, who had been her close friend for a long time. During her time on Celebrity Big Brother UK, she said,
I almost ran off and married John. I did love him, I still love him. If I hadn’t been married I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane.
According to a source, not only did she have a great relationship with her husband, but she also had a great relationship with Kelly Preston, who was his wife before she died. When the actor heard that she had died, he posted the following on his Instagram page:
Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had.I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.
