When Temporal Looms Go Haywire: The Setup
So, we all saw it—or if you didn’t, why are you even here, get to streaming!—Loki Season 2, Episode 4 has left the Marvel fandom in a state of total disarray. Remember the Temporal Loom? That overly complicated contraption the TVA has been desperately trying to fix? Yeah, it just went kaput, and we’re left to pick up the pieces.
“It’s unclear what exactly happened to Loki, Mobius, Sylvie, OB, Hunter-B15, Casey and the others at the TVA, but it seems OB’s ominous warning that they were all going to die came to pass.”
Renslayer’s Ruthless Play
Renslayer is back, and she’s not here for pleasantries. You remember General Dox, right? Renslayer offers her a “deal you can’t refuse”—but Dox did. She and her team declined, and boy did they pay for it.
“Midway through the episode, Renslayer returns to the TVA and offers General Dox a deal—if they help her take control of the TVA, she’ll give any of them who want it a life on the timeline.”
What happened next was far from a handshake. Renslayer eliminates Dox and her team using Loki’s torture device from earlier in the season. Talk about adding insult to injury.
“Considering their deaths happen before the Temporal Loom explosion, and Dox was a minor character introduced in Loki season 2, it’s likely she and her team aren’t going to return.”
Victor Timely: A Not-So-Timely End
Victor Timely, the man with a plan (and a Temporal Aura), steps in to save the day—or so he thought. Timely enters the Temporal Loom chamber and gets a rather unpleasant surprise.
“At the end of the episode, Victor Timely volunteers himself to fix the Temporal Loom, but when he enters the room where the loom is housed, he’s immediately killed by the massive amount of temporal radiation emitted by the time stream.”
Does this mean he’s gone for good? Well, considering he was evaporating like a forgotten bowl of spaghetti, it might be a stretch to expect a comeback.
“It’s unclear if Victor Timely will return in Loki season 2, whether in episode 5 or episode 6, the finale, but his death may be permanent.”
The Ultimate Question: Who’s Still Breathing?
Now, here’s the rub. We know the Temporal Loom exploded, and if OB’s dire predictions are anything to go by, everyone in that room—and perhaps even in the TVA—is toast. But can we really be sure?
“As for everyone else, something disastrous has happened as a result of the Temporal Loom explosion.”
Many of our beloved characters, including Loki, Hunter B-15, and Casey, appear in scenes in the Loki season 2 trailers that haven’t been seen in the episodes yet. So chances are, they’re not done kicking up cosmic dust just yet.
“While it’s possible the trailers may have pulled some trickery, it’s unlikely Loki killed off its entire cast of characters with two episodes still left.”
Piecing It Back Together: What’s Next?
Marvel has built its empire on unexpected twists, so it’s anyone’s guess how the characters could return. Maybe the explosion scattered them across different timelines? After all, the idea of TVA members coming to terms with their variant statuses has been a recurring theme this season.
“Marvel may come up with a different way to bring the cast back, but it still seems likely most of the main cast will return in episode 5.”
So, all in all, while we can’t be sure who made it out alive after that heart-stopping episode, we’re pretty sure the roster of survivors will give us a lot to talk about when Loki Season 2, Episode 5 drops on Thursday, November 2 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Disney+.
Stay tuned, True Believers!
