One Punch Man Season 3 was announced over a year ago, and since then, fans have been waiting for any news about One Punch Man. According to one of the leakers, @shonenleaks, rumors spread that Mappa has taken One Punch Man Season 3, along with its other notable works along with Attack On Titan and Vinland Saga.
However, this rumor was later debunked by the official sources, stating no such decision has been taken yet. So, which studio is making One Punch Man Season 3? Here is what we know so far!
One Punch Man Season 2: What Went Wrong?
One Punch Man Season 1, which was animated by MadHouse, won numerous accolades from the fans for its excellent execution. It quickly rose to the top favorites of the fans. However, things went downhill with One Punch Man Season 2, which faced severe criticism from the fans due to its poor animation quality. JC Staff, the studio behind the second season, was accused of cost-curbing during production, leading to disastrous character designs. To manage the costs, JC Staff compromised by poorly executing the fight scenes, usually the most expensive part of any anime.
One Punch Man Season 3: Which Studio Will Animate?
One Punch Man Season 3 was rumored to be animated by Mappa, and this rumor had a good reason to back it up. During 2019, Mappa was on a spree to take over several bigshot projects, like Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Hell’s Paradise. One Punch Man, nonetheless, was also one of the “big projects,” and with the poor execution of One Punch Man Season 2, fans had hoped Mappa would take up One Punch Man Season 3. However, Mappa debunked all the rumors, and after that, fans got no news of One Punch Man Season 3.
One Punch Man Season 3 will certainly not return to the JC staff after their disastrous mismanagement of the series. The announcement of One Punch Man Season 3 was made over a year ago on their official website, but fans still do not have a clue about the studio animating the series. This leads to assumptions that Mappa is the animating studio behind One Punch Man Season 3.
One Punch Man Season 3: What’s Causing The Delay?
As mentioned earlier, Mappa has been taking up several projects simultaneously, which has put stress on their animators. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 had many chaotic events surrounding the studio and its animators last year. The overwork schedule and poor payment scheme have made the animators of Mappa severely frustrated, which often led to mental breakdowns, so much so that they had to post their plight on social media websites like Twitter despite signing an NDA.

Mappa has recently announced the Chainsaw Man Movie and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. It takes at least a year to properly animate 12 episodes. With the Chainsaw Man Movie and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, which may have 23-24 episodes like the previous season, onboard, it is unlikely One Punch Man Season 3 will have a chance to emerge. Both Chainsaw Man movie and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 are rumored to be on air within the last half of 2024 to the initial half of 2025. If rumors are to be believed, if Mappa is taking up OPM Season 3, this reason may have set One Punch Man to go in the backfoot.
Final Thoughts:
We hope One Punch Man Season 3 soon finds its compatible animation studio, as this series deserves to be in the spotlight, with Saitama’s hilarious comedic relief and cold action sequences. Being one of the top favorites of the fans, it certainly won’t get irrelevant in the future.
