The Return of Daredevil in the MCU: A Waiting Game
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have been on the edge of their seats for the return of Daredevil, especially with Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock. But it seems like the wait for “Daredevil: Born Again” is going to be a bit longer than expected. A recent report has shed light on a potential new release date, and it’s not as soon as you’d hope.
The Strike That Stalled Hell’s Kitchen
“Principal photography began back in March but had to pause in June when the Writers Guild of America strike went into effect,” according to sources. The SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing, and it’s one of the major reasons why the production has been halted.
“Until the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, filming won’t be able to resume, meaning that it is likely forcing Marvel Studios and Disney+ to look at a 2025 premiere at this point.”
A Glimpse into the Storyline
While Marvel Studios and Disney+ have been tight-lipped about the project, a temporary synopsis has been released. It reads:
“Marvel Studios presents ‘Daredevil’ in which longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.”
The first episode promises to reintroduce audiences to the world of Daredevil, and it seems like the storyline will focus on both Murdock and Fisk trying to turn over a new leaf, only for their pasts to haunt them.
Why 18 Episodes?
Another reason for the delay? The episode count. “Daredevil: Born Again” is set to be the first MCU TV show to have more than six episodes. In fact, it’s slated for a whopping 18 episodes.
“This is the closest the Disney+ series has ever gotten to the regular broadcast network count, with Agents of SHIELD being the only MCU TV show so far to have ever done 22 episodes for most of its seasons.”
Keeping It Real on the Streets
The original Daredevil series on Netflix was lauded for its gritty, street-level action and minimal use of VFX. The new series aims to maintain that essence.
“Daredevil: Born Again will supposedly again be a very street-level MCU show, meaning there is less VFX work to be done and more dedication to stunts and battle scenes.”
Lessons from Phase 4
The MCU has had its share of rushed projects in Phase 4, which didn’t sit well with audiences. Given Daredevil’s massive popularity, Marvel Studios is likely taking its time to ensure that the series meets fan expectations.
“As shown throughout Phase 4, the MCU suffered a lot due to the rushed work that was done on some of the movies and TV shows, which can’t happen for Daredevil: Born Again, given the character’s massive positive reception with audiences.”
The Clock is Ticking, But Quality Takes Time
While the wait for “Daredevil: Born Again” may seem excruciating, it’s a sign that Marvel Studios is committed to delivering a quality product. With any luck, more updates will emerge before the year is out, giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect from this highly anticipated series.
