The Whispers Behind the Ranch
Everyone loves a good old-fashioned Western drama, and few have captivated audiences like Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. But what happens when the sun sets on the Dutton family ranch? Recent months have been as turbulent for the show as they have been for the characters, especially for Kevin Costner, the man who’s brought John Dutton to life.
“Yellowstone is officially coming to an end with Season 5. That being said, the franchise will live on through its various spinoffs, and there’s still Part 2 to look forward to – but will Costner reprise his role as the Montana rancher?”
Costner’s Commitments: Where Is He Headed?
While the actor has been enthralling audiences as John Dutton, he’s also been knee-deep in another ambitious project: a four-movie Western epic titled Horizon: An American Saga. Needless to say, the man’s got his hands full. Is there room for Yellowstone in his jam-packed schedule?
“Costner’s attorney Marty Singer previously denied the rumors that the star has been difficult to work with, telling Puck News: ‘The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie.'”
According to sources cited by Deadline, it’s all a bit hazy:
“It isn’t clear whether Costner will be back for the final episodes, which we hear are slated to start production in August.”
Friction in Frontier Land?
Rumors have it that Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan might not be on the best of terms when it comes to filming schedules. Could this be a sign of fading cowboy camaraderie, or is it just gossip fanning the flames?
What Lies Beyond the Horizon for Yellowstone?
While Yellowstone’s grand finale is drawing near, the franchise isn’t hanging up its cowboy hat just yet. Several spin-offs, including 1883, 1923, and 6666, will continue the storytelling. A new series with a yet-to-be-announced title is also in the works.
“Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits,” said Chris McCarthy, president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios.
David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, assures the saga will live on:
“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale.”
Matthew McConaughey is even rumored to be donning the cowboy boots as the lead in the upcoming series.
Upcoming Attractions: The Show Must Go On
With or without Kevin Costner, the final six episodes of Yellowstone are set to hit the screens on Paramount in November 2023, after initially being scheduled for summer. Will John Dutton make an appearance? Only time—and Kevin’s schedule—will tell. But one thing’s for sure: the Wild West drama is far from over.
