With the recent changes to the streaming time, fans are concerned about whether Mappa Studios will continue with the new installments of episodes for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. Will Mappa still be able to hold on to Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3? Here is what we know!
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Anime Industry May Collapse
The anime industry is facing a grave issue with its toxic work culture, which could potentially lead to its downfall. Terumi Nishii, the Chief Director of Jujutsu Kaisen, has expressed her concern about the future of the animation industry. She believes that once Kagawa’s generation of animators retires, it will be difficult for the industry to sustain itself.
まじで終わってますからね。香川さんたちの世代が抜けたら一気にぜんぶ終わる。
それまでに育成スキームをなんとかしないと。RT— 西位 輝実 NlSHII Terumi (@NishiiTerumi) November 28, 2023
Kagawa is a well-known animation director who has worked on many episodes of Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Nishii, his assistant animator for the Utena movie, is part of a movement to improve working conditions for animators in Japan. She advocated for a standardized skill test to raise industry standards.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: Will Mappa Renew The Next Season?
With such brutal treatment of the animators, can Mappa hold on to Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3? At the moment, there have been no announcements regarding Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 from Mappa. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will have three more episodes until it wraps up for this year. Season 2 supposedly covers Gojo’s past arc and Shibuya Incident Arc, meaning Chapters 76-136 will be/have been adapted from the manga series.
Even if Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 cannot entirely cover the Shibuya Incident Arc, it will likely continue its course in Season 3. That being said, fans can expect an extended hiatus even if Mappa decides to continue with Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. This is likely a positive thing, as it will give the animators enough time to complete the episodes and ensure they can fully realize their “vision,” so, fans can expect high-quality production for the upcoming episodes.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: Mappa Controversy
The animators at the Mappa Studio were pushed to the brink of their mental health with pathetic hours of overwork consistently. While many animators have left the animation company, a few may have stayed back for their own reasons but did not fail to leave traces of how they are suffering in the company on Twitter. They had to work on multiple projects simultaneously, including Jujutsu Kaisen, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and Chainsaw Man.
Despite signing an NDA that asked the Mappa employees not to disclose any of the conditions they are required to work in, some animators have revealed payment discrepancies and other issues. Mappa was given two years for JJK Season 2 animation, but CEO Otsuka allocated only six months to complete Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, causing them to work on episodes the day before airing.
It is currently uncertain whether Mappa will be producing Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. With rising complaints from the animators, the facade of the glorious anime industry is falling off gradually. However, there is hope as more animators are speaking out for better working conditions, which could lead to a brighter future for the industry.
