The Fate of Assane Diop and Hints at What Lies Ahead
The life of Assane Diop, the professional thief inspired by the tales of Arsène Lupin, has kept us on the edge of our seats since Netflix’s Lupin hit the platform in 2021. Starring Omar Sy, the series has garnered an impressive viewership and high praise for its storytelling and ensemble cast. But as Season 3 wraps up with some unexpected twists, what does the future hold for this critically acclaimed show? Creator George Kay shares some cautious yet intriguing updates.
George Kay Discusses the Future of Lupin
In a recent interview with Variety, George Kay opened up about the future of the series, especially regarding a potential Season 4. Kay explained,
“Obviously, we’ve worked super hard on these seasons, and then we got to see how the world reacts. So I would say, not to answer for Damien [Couvreur, Vice President of Series in France], but he’s got to factor that in. But when you create the dynamics amongst the characters, you set these shows up so that they can have a long life so that you’re not cornered, or you don’t have a problem continuing them, because it’s harder to generate length out of a show that’s not designed to run and run. So we had very ambitious foundations for it. So it’s definitely got the scale, if it’s required.”
This leaves fans in a tantalizing state of suspense. Kay’s comments suggest that while nothing is set in stone, the “very ambitious foundations” of the show could certainly allow for more seasons.
Unraveling the Twists and Turns of Season 3
Omar Sy’s character Assane pulled out all the stops in the latest season. He reunited with Claire (played by Ludivine Sagnier) and their son Raoul (Etan Simon), narrowly avoiding the clutches of Keller (Steve Tientcheu). Yet the final twist came as Assane turned himself into the police, striking a complex deal with Youssef (Soufiane Guerrab).
“In prison, Sy’s character appeared to make a deal with Youssef, telling him that he would open up, but only if he was provided more stories, and if Benjamin (Antoine Gouy) were released and given a letter addressed to Claire.”
Trust Issues and Cliffhangers
What really grabbed fans was the finale’s cliffhanger. Assane ends up in the same prison as his nemesis, Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre), the man responsible for his father’s death. This adds an entirely new layer of suspense and questions about Assane’s trust.
While it remains uncertain whether Netflix will greenlight Lupin for a fourth season, one thing is clear: George Kay and his team have laid the groundwork for an epic continuation. Should the show return, it’ll be fascinating to see how Assane navigates these treacherous new waters—especially with Hubert looming large in his life.
Keep An Eye Out for What’s Next
It’s a waiting game now, but the excitement for what could come next for Assane and his entangled life is palpable. With the creative team’s ability to keep us guessing, any future episodes promise to be just as thrilling as the ones that have already captivated audiences worldwide.
