Alice in Borderland is a manga adaptation, and its Season 2 got inspiration from none other than Alice in Wonderland, the fantasy novel. The most significant connection with the show is the concept of playing cards representing different masters and their games.
The show is mainly based on the manga series of the same name. The manga also includes the final confrontation between the Queen of Hearts, Mira Kano, and the protagonist Ryohei Arisu. Season 2 of Alice in Borderland ends on a cliffhanger that could indicate a season 3 release with a new villain.
The show’s adventurous theme and mysterious tone drew the audience’s attention when it was first released. The survivors of Tokyo were thrown into a post-apocalyptic land to play deadly games and survive. Losing is not an option here because it would result in the player’s death by a laser beam striking from the clouds.
Season 1 of Alice in Borderland
Many fans feel that Alice in Borderland is the original Squid Game which is a Korean dystopian drama having a similar format. The story revolves around Kento Yamazaki’s Arisu and his best friends Yûki Morinaga’s Chota Segawa and Keita Machida’s Daikichi Karube. The three friends are seen playing games and surviving together in the Borderland.
Unfortunately, Arisu’s friends have to sacrifice their lives to save him in the Seven of Hearts game. Arisu meets Tao Tsuchiya’s Usagi and then progresses to other game levels. They end up meeting the Mad Hatter in Season 1’s end. The Mad Hatter is also playing games and collecting cards to return to the real world.
Season 2 of Alice in Borderland
The show’s second season focuses on how the remaining characters survive and tackle various games. The King of Spades runs the game Survival and works as an assassin killing everyone he finds. The main characters escape assassin’s attacks and participate in different games to survive.
In Season 2, fans watch Arisu, Usagi, Nijirô Murakami’s Shuntaro Chishiya, Aya Asahina’s Hikari Kuina, Yûtarô Watanabe’s Kodai Tatta, Dôri Sakurada’s Suguru Niragi and Ayaka Miyoshi’s Ann Rizuna playing several intense games.

The show revolves around Arisu, who meets many interesting characters on his way. The King of Clubs (Tomohisa Yamashita’s Ginji Kyūma) is the most memorable one of all. He makes everyone play the most complex game Osmosis. It is based in a harbor where shipping containers create a maze. Arisu also learns important life lessons from Kyūma and finds his life’s purpose.
News about Season 3 of Alice in Borderland
We see Arisu forming a close bond with Usagi at the hospital. At the end of Season 2, the camera focuses on a deck of cards in the gardens. Fans see that the entire deck is wiped off when the wind blocks, except for the Joker. In the manga, the Joker is a mediator between death and life. What will the Joker mean in the show? We will only get to know with time as there is no confirmation about Season 3 yet.
