WWE WrestleMania 35 is WWE’s biggest event of 2019. The show of shows took place at the Metlife Stadium in New York on the 7th of April. WrestleMania is usually where all the major storylines pay off. Here’s what happened at the event:
WWE WrestleMania 35: Tony Nese Defeats Buddy Murphy for Cruiserweight Championship
This was the opening match of the night where Tony Nese defeated Buddy Murphy, the reigning Cruiserweight champion. Nese defeated Murphy with a running knee.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Braun Strowman wins Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Braun Strowman won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale (ARMBAR) where he continued his rivalry with the Saturday Night Live hosts.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Carmella wins Women’s Battle Royal
The women’s Battle Royal was won by Carmella. This was quite an upset for many as most fans believed that either Asuka or Lacy Evans were going to win it.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Seth Rollins Defeats Brock Lesnar for Universal Title
In a total surprise, WrestleMania 35 started off with the Universal Championship match where Brock Lesnar, the reigning WWE Universal Champion was defeated by Seth Rollins. Rollins conquered the beast after a low blow followed by three curb stomps.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Triple H Defeats Batista
Triple H vs Batista was a career vs career match. The match ended after Triple H defeated Batista by hitting him with an extra-strong sledgehammer shot. Ric Flair was also involved at one point in the match, as a payoff from earlier in the storyline where Batista assaulted Flair on his birthday.
WWE WrestleMania 35: The Usos Retain WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles
The Usos are the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions. The match was quite exciting and full of some interesting spots such as the one between Ricochet and Cesaro. This was widely expected that the Usos will retain as the WWE wants to ensure they do not head to AEW.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder Become New Raw Tag Team Champions
Curt Hawkins’ losing streak finally ended. The Revival lost their tag team titles to Zack Ryder (the hometown hero) and Curt Hawkins.
WWE WrestleMania 35: In-Ring Segment Elias and John Cena
‘The Elias concert’ was interrupted by a familiar theme which led to fans all around the world jumping off their seats. John Cena returned with the word-life theme complete with the chain and the lock and dressed as the original ‘rapper’ Cena.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Shane McMahon Defeats The Miz
Shane McMahon defeated the Miz in the falls count anywhere match after the Miz superplexed him from a tall structure. Shane O’ Mac was able to get his hand on the Miz, thus pinning him.
WWE WrestleMania 35: AJ Styles Defeated Randy Orton
AJ Styles defeated Randy Orton after hitting him with a phenomenal forearm. Multiple finishers were teased and traded in the match and it was one of the best matches of the night.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Kofi Kingston Defeats Daniel Bryan for WWE Championship
In perhaps the biggest ‘moment’ of the night, Kofi Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan after hitting trouble in paradise. Kofi became the second African American (after The Rock) to win the WWE Title. It took him 11 years to win it and the The New Day celebrated along with him.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Roman Reigns Defeats Drew McIntyre
While McIntyre dominated for the earlier portion of the match, Roman Reigns ‘hulked up’ towards the end after McIntyre made a reference to Dean Ambrose, Roman’s Shield-brother. Reigns hit the spear for the win.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Finn Balor Defeats Bobby Lashley for Intercontinental Championship
The demon Finn Balor defeated Bobby Lashely for the WWE Intercontinental Championship in what was a rather short match. This was already predicted by a number of people as ‘the demon’ was not going to lose anyway.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Samoa Joe Defeats Rey Mysterio, Retains US Championship
Samoa Joe defeated Mysterio to retain his title. Mysterio was injured and this was a glorified squash-job.
WWE WrestleMania 35: Becky Lynch Defeats Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to Become Raw And Smackdown Women’s Champion
In the main event of WWE WrestleMania 35, “The Man” Becky Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey. Flair made an elaborate entrance via a helicopter. In the match, Lynch pinned Rousey for the win after a surprise roll-up. Rousey left the ring in shock and surprise while Lynch celebrated with both the belts to close the show.
