Xbox Two, the gen-next Xbox, is something that has the gaming community all excited and abuzz about! It comes out as the next major version of the Xbox after the 2013-released Xbox One. Speculations surrounding this console and Xbox Two features have been on an all-time high since E3 2018.
This is because Phil Spencer, the Xbox chief, confirmed that Microsoft is indeed working towards developing Xbox Two. At the E3 2018, which took place in June last year, Spencer had said:
“Our hardware team is deep into developing the next generation of Xbox consoles, where we will once again deliver on our commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming.”
Following this announcement, it has since been speculated that three variants of the console will be coming out. The codenames of these devices have been leaked. The devices are internally being referred to as Xbox Scarlett, Xbox Anaconda and Xbox Lockhart. Let us now take a look at some of the expected Xbox Two features.
Xbox Two Features: What to Expect?
Xbox Two is all set to provide a significant improvement compared to the previous generation Xbox One console. Interestingly, there has been a strong rumour which indicates that one of these XBOX consoles would be streaming-0nly. Xbox Scarlett is likely to be this streaming-only device from Microsoft.
Considering that the Scarlett variant of the Xbox will not be used for gaming, the company does not intend to use a computer CPU in the device. It is instead expected that a semi-custom AMD Picasso chip would power the device. These chips are AMD’s Ryzen 3000 mobile processors, which also power some Microsoft Surface Laptops.
Another of the Xbox Two features that we would like to bring to your notice is the form factor. This information, again, pertains only to the streaming-only Xbox as of now. It is expected that this Xbox would be much smaller in size compared to the previous generation of Xbox One devices.
Xbox Two Release Date
An official announcement regarding the Xbox Two features is expected at the E3 2019 event in June this year. However, it is unlikely that we get to see the actual console anytime before 2020. Xbox Two is expected in 2020 – and the rumor mills point out that among the first three games to come out for this gen-next console would be The Elder Scrolls 6, Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo Infinite.
Going by the release schedule of these games, Xbox Two is expected to come out in 2020. 2020 is also the year other major games such as the GTA VI and (possibly) Sims 5 release. The Xbox 2020, however, is a rather exciting prospect – as it will provide the gamers with a fresh breath of innovation! More details on Xbox Two features and Xbox Two release date are likely to be announced at the E3 2019 event.
Xbox Two vs PlayStation 5
It would be a sin to talk about the next generation Xbox Two console but not address the elephant in the room: PlayStation 5. Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is a direct competitor to the Xbox 2020. The PS5 is expected to come out sometime between Q4 of 2019 to Q3 of 2020. This further strengthens the possibility of Microsoft releasing the Xbox Two in the same time-frame.
One of the key differentiating Xbox Two features, which would set it apart from the Sony PlayStation will be the streaming-only Xbox. This is an innovation which is likely to give Microsoft an edge. The company has long been trying to project the Xbox as a media device – it might just taste some success with the Xbox 2020.
To sum it up, while the exact Xbox Two features are unknown, it is certain that the console will bring the best of both the worlds: high-quality gaming experience, as well as PC-like processing power.
