Ben Affleck Responds to Viral Grammy Moment with Wife Jennifer Lopez
The Incident
According to a report by the New York Post, the Grammys 2023 ceremony featured an incident between Ben Affleck and his newlywed wife, Jennifer Lopez, that went viral. Cameras captured the couple appearing to get into a tiff during the event.
A Husband-and-Wife Thing
In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Affleck responded to the incident and called it a typical “husband-and-wife thing” despite the memes it spawned. He explained that he knew the cameras were framing them for a shot but didn’t know they were rolling. He leaned into Lopez and said, “As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.” In response, Lopez warned him not to leave.
Good Times at the Grammys
Despite the incident, Affleck shared that he had a good time at the Grammys. He said, “My wife was going, and I thought, ‘Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun.'”
Dealing with Resting Bro Face
Lopez seems used to Affleck’s apparent case of resting bro face. She recently joked on Twitter about his “happy face” during a trailer for his latest movie Air.
Surviving Award Shows
Affleck, the director, and co-star of the new film about Nike’s creation of Michael Jordan’s iconic shoe line, have survived his fair share of award shows. He shared with the Hollywood Reporter that he has gone to award shows and been drunk but nobody ever said he was. However, at the Grammys, he noted that they said he was drunk. He found it exciting and raised questions about acknowledging addiction and its stigma.
A Recovered Alcoholic
Affleck has struggled with alcohol abuse but has recovered from his dark drinking days. In a 2021 interview on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, he appeared to blame his unhappy marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Garner for his drinking problems, saying that he probably still would’ve been drinking if he was still with her. He is now happily married to Jennifer Lopez, and the couple co-parents five children from previous marriages. They are reportedly moving into a $96 million Pacific Palisades estate.
