The past few years have been quite busy for Zendaya. She established herself as one of Hollywood’s brightest actors after starring in the Spider-Man franchise, HBO’s Euphoria, and the musical drama, The Greatest Showman. But even though the actress has established herself in Hollywood, she recently admitted that she might not be an actor for long.
Zendaya has a successful career in a short span
Zendaya made her first appearance on the Disney Channel original series ‘Shake It Up!’ in 2010, where she played Rocky Blue. She later starred as the titular character in the sitcom K.C. Undercover from 2015 to 2018.
Over the years, Zendaya went from Disney star to become a critically acclaimed actor when she made her debut in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. She starred alongside now-boyfriend Tom Holland.
The movie was a massive hit and was highly praised by both fans and critics alike. Zendaya reprised her role as MJ in the sequels Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Zendaya’s role in the MCU helped skyrocket her career to the next level, which soon led to what would perhaps become her biggest role to date: Rue Bennett in the HBO teen drama series, Euphoria. Her portrayal as a troubled drug user appealed to several teenagers and led her to gain significant critical recognition. And it was her role as Rue in Euphoria that helped her win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Zendaya has also starred in other movies, including the sci-fi epic, Dune. She’s set to reprise her role as Chani in Dune: Part II, which is slated to premiere later this year.
Why does Zenfaya want to quit?
Even though Zendaya has a bright future ahead of her, she doesn’t think she wants to continue in Hollywood.
During an interview with Vogue, Zendaya revealed that acting might not be a part of her future after a fan asked her where she sees herself being in a decade.
The actress explained that she wants to do something that brings her joy. She replied,
“My aim is to be doing things that make me happy and bring me joy. Right now, that’s what I get to do currently, which is I get to act. And that brings me a lot of joy.”
Zendaya explained that because her happiness comes first, she might consider switching jobs if acting stops bringing her joy. But thankfully, her hypothetical career change wouldn’t take her out of Hollywood or even far from the camera. She said,
“If there was ever a time where that didn’t bring that satisfaction, I would be glad to switch to something else. And whatever that is, I don’t know.”
The star added,
“hopefully directing.”
Does that mean Zendaya will continue her career in Hollywood? It’s tough to say.
Avenues Zendaya would love to explore in the future
Zendaya would love to go from in front of the camera to behind it. However, that doesn’t look like it to be happening anytime soon. But it’s worth noting she’s previously expressed interest in being a director.
Late last year, Zendaya made headlines when she told Interview Magazine she hoped to direct “a simple love story about two Black girls” one day. She wishes to fill the void of representation on the big screen. Most LGBTQ+ storylines that make it into theatrical movies or popular television series are centered around the trauma of coming out, and the love story is often between two white people. The story that Zendaya would like to bring to life would open a door for more kinds of stories about the LGBTQ+ community and more representation of Black LGBTQ+ voices, and allow for the exploration of those identities intersecting through the lens of a coming-of-age story.
We’d love to see Zendaya continue with her good work in the film industry. Do let us know your opinion regarding Zendaya in the comments.
